The ship is just about to be sunk. Larsen has done an excellent job of creating stress for the reader - you know the millions of dollars of priceless paintings which will be at the bottom of the sea, the hopeful lives extinguished in the blink of an eye, the heartbreak and panic about to ensue - it is like having a crystal ball without being able to change the ugly future you see...

This is a fascinating book, but hard to read because you are learning about lives, reasons people are traveling on the Lusitania, plans to attack the ship, secret messages detailing Germany and Britain's battle plans - and all for naught because it will be sunk.

Okay - so with 30 minutes to read, I am hooked. This ship had 192 furnaces on board! The captain began his career at eight years old as a cabin boy on a ship which sank, but he swam to shore and survived!! AT EIGHT! This kind of attention to detail is what I love about Larsen's works.

I am so scared that something is going to happen to Holly. The last chapter ended so ominously. Is Frank going to confront Shay? I want to keep reading but don't really want to know what happens....

French has created another gripping mystery. Like her other works, the voice - Irish cop Frank Mackey this time - is pure and true and gripping. The writing about his lost love found as a corpse makes me wilt. Gorgeous.

Tennessee Williams behavior as Frank was dying shows the depth of his selfishness. It really doesn't matter what he writes or says after Frank's death; what matters is the immature selfishness of leaving him to find your own comfort in his last hours. Disgusting.

Williams' relationship with Merlo is the definition of dysfunctional. It is amazing they lasted as long as they did. For someone with tender sensibilities like Tenn had, how could he have not seen the damage their uneven status and his infidelities caused. I think his ego and ironically his insecurities destined him to relationship failure.;

I love the vignette about Brando rejecting his amorous co- star! Funny!! You forget how prolific Williams was. Proud of him for trying to separate the genius from his dysfunction!

"So I filled a thermos with martinis and off I went" says Williams. Wow- what a different era. He and many of those in the theater are facing the horrors of McCarthyism which were truly daunting. These last pages remind me of how sterile the 1950s were.

I knew Tenn was well received but the money he was making is astounding. Just for Streetcar's film rights he earned half a million when the average joe was making two thousand a year. While there are many things about him that would tire me out, I really love his adoration and devotion to his grandfather whom he took to Key West when the old guy was in his 90s!

Williams' life seems to be proof positive that when your youth is corrupted by poor parenting and lack of love, you spend too much of your adult life trying to right that ship. This book is too lurid for me in many ways but I love the biographical connections to his work. Great writing - never found the word callipygion in one of my readings before, but of course it is here!

This first chapter is wild! 1) who thinks "Coffin" is ever a name for a child, even a second name. 2) Laurette must have been as great an actress as CC was a horrible husband. 3) poor sister!

This is so gorgeously written-engaging from the first. I love the description of Laurette Taylor as a chandelier in a shabby kitchen! I also live my new vocab word: panjandrums!

Well, Hugo Lamb is back, and I am terrified. As much as I dislike Crispin Hershey, I was panicked when he had the Icelandic woods encounter. Holly must have to face Hugo one on one before this is over. SCARY!

I adore this book. It is gripping. I was terrified when Aiofe went missing, thinking she was going to disappear like Jacko. I am confused at how all the stories are going to align - but am so excited to find out!

I have so much I should have been doing this morning, but when I found out Holly was the waitress in the bar, I had to keep reading. Andyer or whoever he is was making me like him because he genuinely seemed to like Holly but no more. This is some gorgeous writing with some poignant ideas hiding under a wild plot. Love it!

Wow- I love this novel so far! Great true voice, wonderful character in Holly, and tantalizing hints about the phenomena which surrounds her. Fascinated to see how Jocko fits in because he clearly does. Wonder about Ed... Just what I needed - a real page turner

SO getting scary - Cassie has gone undercover as the murdered girl who eerily looks just like her. I am so scared for her - I am reading every simple thing like what they ask her about breakfast as having profound meaning to the mystery. When she is left alone in the house, I feel like she is going to find a hidden camera spying on her or something. Creepy!!

Like her other novel, this one begins with an intriguing premise which makes me want so much more time to read: a detective who was once undercover is called to a murder crime scene where the victim looks just like her and her id says her name is the same her the cop's prior fake name! WOW - that is cool!

At this point, you see the relationship between Lene and Botho as infinitely problematic. She is a lowly farm girl living a bucolic but bare existence while he lives a worldly life on the edge of the upper class. The lunch he has with his uncle sets up the conflict - he is betrothed to a wealthy woman in his extended family. She would solve his money issues and solidify his position while Lene offers him only love.

The author explains his educational philosophies and scientific principles with wonderful anecdotes. I am fascinated with this because I am training one of my dogs right now, a stubborn little girl named Heidi to not run in front of cars. He had a similar worry about Chaser and taught her at the young age of 3 months. I also like how this book dovetials with all teaching - because learning traits are universal.

The opening of the book has me weeping. I just had to put down my sweet Mabel, a miniature schnauzer whom I have loved for almost 11 years. The doctor is recounting his beloved Yasha who was his first "teaching assistant" and the day she passed away. His feelings and her devotion to him remind me so of last weekend when Mabel died. Dogs teach us so much about love.

I just started this book which I ordered after I watched the 60 minute piece on this wonderful dog and his devoted and loving owner. So looking forward to both the dog's story and to the scientific information about how brains - ours and dogs' - work.

This is so creepy. The boy who survived is now investigating a murder in the same woods of his childhood trauma. You get lots of creepy details about this crime and possible suspects but everything seems blurred by Rob's foggy memory which fades in and out. The hair clip is a sad and poignant detail which cannot be a coincidence linking the crimes over decades.

Well, I stopped reading here because the trial is supposed to start on the next page. VJ has clearly been set up even though he is clearly a bad person whose karma is catching up with him. Terry is risking everything pursuing the truth here, but why? I don't believe it is for honesty's sake alone. He is trying to vindicate his conscience or prove something to himself. I worry for his marriage and his kids.

I love this book! It is a mystery with the best characters and plot spins! I wonder of the author buried a tiny hint in the middle of a throwaway sentence. He references an old favorite movie of mine - Presumed Innocent. Could Melissa be the one who planned the setup just like the film as the wounded wife? Maybe ....
