okay so..."They're not but squatters." In 1933, they would've been using "naught" which is a now-archaic term for "nothing". So the sentence would read as "They're nothing but squatters." And even though naught sounds like NOT, 'not' would be incorrect. It's google, people.

Another great book that uses "I'd OF" instead of "I'd've". Yeah, a double contraction doesn't exist, but if it's in dialogue...that's just how people talk. But using OF instead of HAVE doesn't work. Editors, please do your jobs.

i'm only on chapter 3 of the ebook but Ruth isn't scoring any points with me - she's being a bi*** to her stepfamily and I'm sure they could be a lot worse. Then again, I've never lost my mom so. But i hope Ruth becomes more likable as it goes on.

Of the ebook edition. Plot hole: you can pay hotels with cash that’s true. But i have yet to meet a nicer one that DOES NOT force you to put a card on file for damages. You can pay cash after, but you MUST have a credit card on file with them in case you skip out.

of the ebook. pretty sure in the first book their school mascot was the acorn. BUT it's also true that the sports teams could have a different team name. but it's just confusing when it isn't clarified.

I'm on chap 1 of "smart kid" ebook ed & i just marvel @ how much better a writer King is than Cronin. He may introduce 800 characters but you care about them a LOT more in King's books. And the pages just fly by.
