This may be a hot take but I 100% think the reapings are rigged- not that all the names in the bowl are Prim but I think all the names are 12 year olds for this year in 12 and 11, in an effort to show the districts that even the youngest aren’t safe; and the bowl for the boys only has names for merchant’s sons to show even they aren’t safe

In my mind I know this book is supposed to be a commentary on witches being too obsessed with if someone male/female and why that’s wrong/ needs to change but it’s hard to sit thru a book that is just shoving it down ur throat about how “male and female magic users are just DIFFERENT and the way they use and interact with magic is just DIFFERENT if you have XX vs XY chromosomes”

I’m starting to remember why I don’t usually like witch stories 🙃 it’s a little heavy on the “witches are all women with vaginas and XX chromosomes and we all come from the earth” which is kind of predictable and stale 💀
