Not so many enumerations until now, which... is surprising.
However, Verne reminds us constantly that penguins are stupid.

Which is hilarious.

Jules Verne was a huge fan of Edgar Allan Poe. As it so happens, this story has as catalyst one of Poe's novels: The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket.

You could call it... a fanfic.

I also find it hilarious that Poe's novel is described to be too fantastical and unbelievable to be real in a Jules Verne novel .

It seems that the "Cats vs. Dogs in Middle Earth" was cast aside after the first draft. However, Tolkien stubbornly keeps to the term "gnomes" for the Noldor, insisting that it comes from the term "gnomic", "to be knowing" (in Greek, see "agnostic").
This keeps bringing up the image of garden gnomes fighting Orcs in the early days of Middle Earth.

Tolkien was apparently not a fan of cats. Elves do not like cats... Because Melkor has one, apparently.

I... uh. I need a giggle, because even in Tolkien's world the Big Bad Evil Guy has a cat.

This book has more than 177 pages. Try 212.

The Oblivion-part was deceptively short.

Pratchett is...odd. He doesn't seem to ask for much luxury (or anything extravagant), but wants it done to the dot. He can get rather irate at "slight" deviations on his work (or adaptations thereof) or when signing copies under a "H*rr* P*tt*r sign" (his words)

More importantly though, I'm at the ES IV: Oblivion bit. :)

I see a few names of authors dropped that I recognise, partly because sir Terry Pratchett was a HUGE NERD, and partly because these authors cooperated with Pratchett on books (like Neil Gaiman and Stephen Baxter).
