Taking a real long time to explain why this book didn't have as much of an impact as we'd like to believe

I feel that the person writing the preface is very critical of the Manifesto's ideas. I'll have to look up if his claims hold up to scrutiny, though.

Sometimes distilling the actual lesson from the endless examples he gives is difficult in itself.

"The coffin maker": ten pages of some sort of Dickensian humorous (and perhaps moralistic) story.

"Everything seemed so right, Chandra just knew they were going to win."

Metamorphosis isn't about Gregor Samsa (although he's the protagonist) but how the titular event causes the whole family not to see the changes that come to them. In fact, by clinging to Gregor, they prolong their suffering.
If this story is an allegory, let it be that of the departure of a loved one.
