Part 4:

Why did I start this when book 2 and 3 are so far away.

Part 4 was a big one. A big shift in this book. Real eye opener and I LOVE it. I was a bit iffy on Elsa but she’s definitely climbing the ranks here.

Final part coming now 😭

Part 3:

Wow. This is getting good. What is the deal with the husband???
Swan is warming up to me. Sirens are cooling down to me. They just feel wrong.

Part 2:

Swan’s section just isn’t for me. I’m not enjoying that part.

Lark though, I’m SUPER invested. Give me more. This whole marriage aspect has me wondering what the author has been through to think this up.

Part 1:

This seems interesting. I like the fantasy part. Songlight sounds very interesting.

The characters are simple so far, and I’m interested where they go from here.

I am reading this because I like the cover, sooooooo who knows how this will go.

Part 5: The Shadow Who Smiled and the Girl Who Smiled Back

Learning more about Him is actually one of the better parts of the book to me. I feel like it’s an underlying major part of this book when most may focus on Addie.

I’m loving the paintings. I don’t want this to end.

Part 4: The Man Who Stayed Dry in the Rain

This book is heartbreaking. I love it. Contradictory, I know, but I’m feeling what is being written.

Also can we have more Book content. I feel like they are next to see this mysterious man and Book gets to choose something.

Part 3: 300 years and 3 words

I’m getting more confused but more invested in this book. I thought the party was going to ruin everything, but this guy is so so different.

I would like more flashbacks to random parts of her life. That’s all I will say

Part 1: The Gods That Answer After Dark

I am loving this. The concept, delivery, Addie.

What makes someone think of a story like this.

Ridoc is the greatest character in any book since… since… idk. Hairy Maclary.

We need more people in books like him.

Chapters 7-12:

I desperately need more information about Andarna. And I’m also realllly intrigued about the Venin, especially the… new one we just met.

So far, exceeding expectations 🥳

Chapter 1-6:

Idk how many updates I’ll manage with this book without providing spoilers, but GOD I forgot how in love Violet is with Xaden. It’s so difficult to not roll my eyes every time.

I love how violent Tairn’s nickname is for him though. Gives no f**ks.

Chapters 16-18:

That was the most insane 3 chapter run I have ever witnessed in a book in… forever!!!

My heart is so hurt, but I am so damn excited for this ending. Ouyang, you are amazing but also the biggest fool I’ve met.

Zhu, I love you but you are also an idiot for not fighting harder.

Wang… you’ve actually been pretty perfect so far. I can’t complain. But forget about your brother PLEASSEEE

Chapters 9-12:

Things are getting technical!

And old friend has brought himself into the mix and things are getting even more interesting. Parker-Chan knows how to hold my attention that’s for sure.

I’m also very invested in Khanbaliq. Very.

Chapters 6-9:

Wow I’m loving this. I love the chemistry between them. And the slow, slow realisation that Zhu isn’t what they make out for everyone to believe.

Also Madam Zhang is a spectacular character. I am in love with her.

Chapters 4-6:

Aaaaaaaa my favourites are together! Obviously not for any good reasons but I like their hostile chemistry toward each other.

The Khanbaliq story is also coming along smoothly. I very much like this.

Chapters 1-3:

I like how this is starting. I hope because it’s starting with 3 perspectives it’ll be one perspective each chapter? That would be good. I felt the last book I was slightly forgetting what happened the last time because there were sometimes 3-4 chapters between each perspective swap.

Chapters 16-18:

The book is going down a path I wasn’t expecting. I thought they would be collaborating, which they still might…? But alas, a story is always better when you can’t predict it.

Chapters 13-15:

Things are heating up and I am LOVING it.

But Zhu is making a mistake, I can feel it already…

But Ouyang? OUYANG??? I’m starting to love this character.

Chapters 10-12

The hunt arc is just brilliant entertainment. Let me follow Ouyang instead of Zhu for a while. This is too fun.

I find that I don’t have a preference between the two stories. And how rare that is.

Chapters 7-9

Interesting. I’m really enjoying this. I take back what I said about the multiple perspectives, it’s honestly not bad.

I love Zhu’s attitude and slight remarks, and interested in Ma as a character.

Chapters 4-6:

I hope the change in perspective is only temporary, as I would really like to follow Zhu throughout the whole story.

I’m very much liking the pacing of the book. Could be a bit quick, but I’d rather this than slow.

Chapters 1-3:

I’m enjoying how this is going so far. The female taking on a male’s job is classic from this era, but I can’t help but enjoy the novels people come up with.
I’m glad the author didn’t drag out the village part, that would’ve been terrible.

Zhu seems a little boring so far, hopefully they become more sooner rather than later.

Chapter 9:

Chapter 8:

It’s like the book has already climaxed. The attempt at cliffhanging just isn’t having an effect on me :(

Chapter 6:
Well, that escalated quickly. Blink and you’ll miss it. It’s also crazy how one minute you can’t do anything because your friend has died, then the next minute you have sex and you no longer feel any sadness about said friend 🤨

It felt too forced, sort of like “oh, I’m running out of pages in the book, let me just fit it in here”

Chapter 6:

The villain is finally revealed! Yes, it was obvious, but we know “what” they are.

Im not loving this though. I do find it interesting that the author is putting her cultural challenges and frustrations into the main character, since they are both Cambodian/British e.g. Khmer Rouge.

Chapter 5:

Im getting lost with what this story is supposed to be about. I mean. I KNOW what it is, but surely there’s more to it than watching someone from the 1600s adjust to 21 century life… right?
