Part 2: After

Oh yeah. Dragons and politics. Old friends and new.

Part 1: Before

God it’s good to be back.

I know that this is a history lesson, but just being in Yscalin again is such a good feeling.

I like our two main characters so far. I can’t really put a divide between them yet.

And wyverns? Heck yeah. I forgot about these monstrosities within this series compared to other dragon books.

Chapters 29-32:

The villains of the book. How do I do this without spoiling.

I really would’ve liked a bit more. I really really would. I’m sure it was possible, and the classic mid chapter character setting and background still wasn’t enough to drag it out further.

I have liked the final part of this book though, outside of this. I think the Shade dynamics have been very interesting and enjoyable to read

Chapters 25-28:

As corny and cliche as it has been, I’ve been enjoying the back and forth of the main characters.

What I have also enjoyed is the depiction of what the final court is. It just makes sense that the final court in Hell is this.

I do want to see what all the hype about “King Yama” is. Watch him end up being a pushover.

Chapters 21-24:

Believe me. I love learning the lore and history of the main characters. But I really would’ve preferred this to all be at the start of the book, instead of a whole chapter dedicated to it in between the main plot when I am very invested in it.

Other than that, I enjoyed Peter and Alice’s D&M. Glad they are properly bonding.

Chapters 17-20:

Not a lot happened here. Just plodding along through Hell.

Chapters 13-16:

What is happening.

It was a believable fantasy book with real references, and most things were based off of factual educational pieces and writings.

And then Elspeth comes along (a new character) and everything just becomes a joke. Oh, bone dogs are because so and so. And oh, that other beast is actually a child. Speaking of children, do you eat rats? How about read smut? One thing after another

Chapter 13:
I’m back early but I’m pissed off.

How do you drop what would probably be THE cliffhanger of the book, but then the entirety of the following chapter be about a past fantastical reminiscence of a wannabe flourishing of love.

I really don’t know if this was the place to put it. It could’ve been earlier when she was having these sorts of feelings, but I really don’t like that it was here.

Third Shift: Pact

Now that we have caught up to real time, it’s great to see the perspective of Silo 1, as well as Solo’s story, which was important in the first book but missed and probably why I struggled so much with it.

But it’s got me excited for the third book, which I didn’t think I would be for this series.

Chapters 9-12:

The Court of Desire was… interesting. That’s a way to put it.

The book is moving at a relatively flowing state, and I’m enjoying the flashbacks to give context to the relationship between Alice and Peter.

Alice’s tattoo is a very cool idea. Good job Rebecca.

However Chapter 12 has dropped a cliffhanger on my head and I am about to get off the train. Why must this always happen?

Chapters 5-8:

I expecting this to be more of a heavy book, but this is so much easier on the mind.

I would like more guest appearances from Archimedes (not the esteemed mathematician, but and equally esteemed cat), but maybe I just have to be patient.

Chapters 1-4:

About as introductory and introductory chapters go. You meet and understand the bond between the two main characters. You learn what the book will be about etc etc.

I know the whole point of this book is about traversing through Hell, but I would’ve liked a few more pages of real world setting.

Other than that, I don’t have much to complain about.

Chapters 41-44:

I have no clue how this can end, but GOD I hope this ends with them separated. I don’t think I’m ready for another reuniting.

Bee has warmed to me for sure. I have liked her post Clerres (a city), and I don’t want to finish the series with me not happy with her.

But I was Fool back, I don’t like Amber.

Chapters 36-40:

Dragons are so cool, and wolves never die.

This is the book that keeps on giving… and taking.

Chapters 33-36:

I’m not prepared for this ending, however it ends.

Chapters 29-32:

Oh dear. And so it finally begins and ends.

Chapters 25-28:

Bee… what have you done.

Fool. What. Have. You. Done.

Chapters 21-24:

Holy smokes. Disregard everything I mentioned in my last update. Bee is 100% on her own path and they were just coincidences.

Fitz is screwed. Bee is probably screwed as well. But somehow, things should be the way things should be

Chapters 13-20:

I wish that our pirates did not change so drastically since when we were last adventuring with them. I am definitely not a fan of them.

Bee’s perspective is bothering me. I get she’s on her own little adventure, but it is very… Fitz. It feels like 2/3 times we cross over to her, she’s in a predicament and has to work her way out of it.

I get she’s his daughter, but keep her unique.

Chapters 9-12:

This book is going to rip apart my heart.

“This is our last hunt, old wolf. And as we have always done, we go to it together.”

I’m not ready for it. At all.

In brighter(?) news, we have met some characters from 10 books ago. Good to see them age like wine. And especially glad Fitz has finally met…

Ah ah ah, I can’t spoil that one.

Chapters 5-8:

How damn cool are dragons. Honestly. It doesn’t matter what book they’re in, nor how different they look or act. They just so cool.

In a proper book update, Fitz continues to be glum and broody. Fool is stressing me out with their stressing, and Bee is definitely Fitz’ daughter that’s for sure. Can’t have a day where something doesn’t manage to complicate things.

Chapters 1-4:

From the jump, Bee’s storyline is which I prefer which surprises me. I thought I’d much rather Fitz’ perspective but I guess not.

But I wouldn’t mind a solo Bee adventure. Her… colleagues… are not really enjoyable.

Chapters 33-36:

My two worlds collide. HECK YESYESYESYESYESYEAYES.

Life is good. It’s not, in terms of the plot, but the above fact. *sigh* it’s all I’ve needed.

Chapters 29-32:

Oh Fool, what have you done. Also can Lant just, you know, f**k off? He’s always in the wrong places, doing the wrong thing, saying the wrong stuff. Just. Go.

Chapters 25-28:

Damn. I really thought they did it :(

More heartbreak for Fitz. Shock. But it’s very confusing how the “villains” managed this. What can they do that we still haven’t learnt about.

HOWEVER. The little passages at the beginning of the chapters have been brilliant recently. History of the Fool? What more could I ask for.

Other than dragons of course.

Chapters 21-24:

This is more like it! Poor decision making from Fitz, leading to a solo adventure!

Just like old times.

Chapters 17-20:

This part felt very drawn out. And also felt like going in circles.
I think it’s time we go on the “quest”. I get we can’t. But we should regardless

Chapters 13-16:

Things are getting pretty dark and confusing.

What happens to Fitz when he passed through the stone?

However, true to my wish, we learn about the pale folk. Pretty interesting, and especially the shedding of skin. But also reasonably confusing as to how they will treat her.

Chapters 9-12:

The Withywoods debacle continues. Fitz finally has a major statement. And some lovely times, sad times, just the usual.

Bee. Her story still intrigues me. I expected more of her perspective unfortunately.
