1984 (Orwell’s version)

Already think I’m going to enjoy it more than LWW— first chapter had a little bit more substance to the writing style. Wish I was given better visuals for the characters to picture them, all I really have for the children is their ages.

To those who read without subvocalization (to read quicker), do you find that your comprehension suffers if you don’t have an inner monologue of the text? Is the trade off for faster reading but less comprehension worth it?

7 chapters in. It’s an easy ready but I wish it had more quotable lines like some of my recent reads — Lord of the Rings, Fahrenheit, Dickens, so on and so forth.
So far I’d assimilate Lewis’ writing style to modern architecture. It’s not bad but there could be more character to it.

Reading slump over, let’s cook.

I refuse to be out read by someone who listens to music while reading books.

I’m not a fan of borrowing books from friends/library. I like to ruin my own books, dog eared, crumpled, underlined… the whole nine yards.

I’m declaring literary war on Grace Hankins, whoever finishes more books this year wins. Comment punishment for the loser.

Silmarillion? I didn’t know Tolkien could count that high!

I really want to like this book but there’s a lot of anecdotal evidence for claims or using like a fictional movie to try and explain a point. It’s not bad and has some good messages but I’m shakey on my options overall.

Kind of a tedious read but it feels like it has truth so I think it’s worth finishing. Still just long-winded and slow at times.

How we celebrating Bilbo and Frodo’s birthday today?

100 pages in so it feels like a good time to hash out my thoughts.

I like the writing style. Every few pages there’s a sentence that shakes me in a good way. “I don’t talk things... I talk the meaning of things. I sit here and know I’m alive” (71).

It’s a book that makes you think abt life. I think some people don’t like it bc they were forced to read for school, but it’s been a great read thus far.
