Obviously, this book is pretty great. But can we get Whitehead a new thesaurus? I am pretty sure his copy doesn't have "said" in it.

It takes a special type of person who wants to read a book about a flu outbreak in the 222nd year of a pandemic.

Whoa: "As long as we keep acting like there's this monolithic way to address any group of students, we're not spending time helping a teacher teach the group of kids [they] has at the moment." (Paul Thomas, 2016)

This book is super accessible but rich. Its use of visuals and analogies helps crystallize the authors' ideas about culture and belonging. My fave analogy is comparing a plant to culture. The soil of culture is enriched by belonging. Inclusion and engagement grow from it.

The most interesting scene to me in Part II is the subway scene right before Montag meets with Faber. On the subway, he's desperately holding a bible, in search of the answers he thinks may be in the words on the pages. He insists that "no phrase must escape" him, as he's fearful somebody will take the book away (Bradbury 74). Unfortunately, the toothpaste jingle keeps him from understanding what he reads.

If I were reading this book for the first time, I would have had this question: "Is somebody following the main character?" What would spark this question is the author's description of "as if someone had called his name" and the fact that the character had "uncertain feelings" (Bradbury 2).
