I am a SUCKER for a good analogy and Grant's comparison of debate to dancing was eloquent and convincing. What a book!

I have always wanted a book that offered a strategic way for schools to move toward equity without relying on traditional data. This is that book. 🙌

The best part of this book so far is how the author uses visuals to accompany the text.

The authors tied Audre Lorde's idea that you cannot dismantle the master's house with the tools of the master as a framework for reevaluating how we see data in education. Mind blown.

This hit me: "Transgender scholar and activist Pat Califia (1997) posed a provocative... question: 'Who would you be if you had never been punished for gender-inappropriate behavior?'."

This is a book you really need to read with a friend... there's so much wildness.

It's exactly what I expected from a book that Tommy Orange and Jesmyn Ward raved about.

Every time I think I have read the best poem in the book, I turn the page and magnificence slaps me in the face.

This. Is. A. Wild. Ride.

This book just destroyed me.

I honestly had no idea what this book was about before I started reading it. It has pulled me in, and I just can't decide which character I love more!

"Caste is more than rank, it is a state of mind that holds everyone captive, the dominant imprisoned in an illusion of their own entitlement, the subordinare trapped in the purgatory of someone else's definition of who they are and who they should be" (290).

If this sentence would have had a semicolon or colon, my heart would have exploded.
