Mic drop moment: "Much of this, according to a 2014 series of studies published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, is fueled by a cognitive bias known as 'motive attribution asymmetry,' which tells us that our beliefs are grounded in love, while our opponents’ are based on hatred."

I have found the author's assertion that we are hard-wired to be connected to others but our societal values push us to focus on individualism compelling. So far, I find this book way more interesting than Tribe, which had similar ideas.

My feelings about this book are complex. I'm gonna need some time to process it.

Mic drop moment: "We all have a deep and abiding need to be seen for who we are—as fully dimensional, complex, and vulnerable human beings. We all need to know that we matter and that we are loved. These are the deep-seated needs that secure relationships satisfy, and when they are met, we tend to live healthier, more productive and more rewarding lives. When they go unmet, we suffer."

I chose this book because I've noticed that American society is very divided right now. I read another book called Tribe that was on this same topic but it was not satisfying. So far, I like that this book focuses more on the science of togetherness.
