K so here’s the thing; nothing has happened yet. That doesn’t make it bad. It’s an exploration of her trauma. However, it’s still a long ass time for nothing to have happened which means (for me) that I don’t find the narrative gripping. These pacing issues have always existed in this series.

I’m going to take a break from Glow and come back when I’m more in the mood

Some pacing issues popping up. I’m attributing them to (1) storyline fatigue given this book is a beast (2) Miro has chosen to walk the reader back through history to show in detail something we already know has happened. It’s hard to see for the moment why the detailed look back in time is necessary

This is such a strange and curious book

Nearly halfway through and it feels like much had happened and nothing had happened

The Worldbuilding continues but I think many of us would rather that than info-dumping

Pretty sure I haven’t even been introduced to all the characters yet but I’m liking where this is going

I feel so protective about this book 🥺

Unrelated: Sat and read in Bellwoods today and it was lovely 🥰

This is my first Christina Lauren book. Hoping it hits the spot as a palate cleanser given I’ve been reading 3 fantasy books at once, 2 still on the go

Giving this a go via audiobook and I don’t think it’s going to help 🥴

Hannah wanting to not be with him but to leave Newport with Fox “cured” of his hang-ups is so damn cringe.

Maybe it’s just me and my dislike for simple, formulaic, low-stakes contemporary romance, but I honestly don’t think this is worth my time

Things are bonkers and I’m not able to read this fast enough 😭 But I am enjoying this even though it’s kind of crazy nothing of note has happened yet

Slade reminds me so much of some of my favourite depictions of Draco in Dramione fanfiction 🖤

Also, there’s a new secondary relationship in book four and it is GIVING ME LIIIIIIFE

I went through some of the 1-star reviews and let me tell you: I THOROUGHLY disagree with their sentiments

This series really is phenomenal

Now to ensure I finish this before Saturday so I can post a spoiler-free review before it’s wide release 🙃

Home in Toronto for a funeral so I haven’t been doing my daily 1+ hour dog walks along with any semblance of my routine that would have me listening to hours and hours of audiobooks 🥲

THE TWIST 😶😶😶

I’d like to think I’d have seen it coming if I was paying more attention to things instead of listening at blistering speeds but let’s be real, I probably wouldn’t have 🤪

Not as good as the first but I’ll keep going

So far: Shy, unobtrusive prose that still shines in its figurative language. An FMC that feels both familiar *and* unique. Magic system isn’t fully fleshed out yet but very cool.

Vibes: kind of like when you can hear rodents scurrying about but can’t see them — you know that anxiety? THAT.

So much for me putting this down. My hold for the audiobook came through on Libby so here we are 🤪

Am I finding myself unfocused as I listen at 1.5 speed? I am lol. Do I care? Not really.

This remains excellent

However, I’m pausing my listening of this for the moment just because I’m juggling a number of soon-to-release novels that I need to prioritize.

This is old so it can wait 🖤

Still feels very joined-up with books one and two ✔️✔️✔️

Someone told me the series goes tits-up in book three. Let’s find out if they’re right 😎

I don’t think I can handle another “read until a third of the way through before it gets interesting” so I’ll give this to 25% and if it’s not working for me, back to the library it goes

Every now and then, you come across the right book at the right time to scratch the very itch you didn’t know until you had until the solution was in your hands.

Ngl it feels like the plot is floundering in book two

You can tell this was some of Simone’s earlier work. Again, this is okay, and I will be finishing it, but my how far she’s come as a writer

Alright so this is fine… but it also has a lot of cringey moments. It lacks the grounding I always crave in the novels I read. I also have no clear picture of who Greer is. What is her personality? She’s less a person and more an approximation of one
