I really relate to her struggles with self worth and feeling like if I disappeared everything would be better

Honestly, I find myself constantly being taught lessons from this book, it’s so easy to judge someone else’s life and experience.

I think I finally get the message of the book, there’s all these tiny seemingly insignificant moments where Emily judges herself for her looks or does something to “beautify” her looks because that’s all she’s ever known. And how that’s fucked with her psyche.

“Later, when I got home and undressed, I noticed red welts decorating my waist from where the belt had cut into my flesh”

There’s something incredibly powerful about this description.

I’m starting to realise that in all of the short stories there’s a link to a previously mentioned character. Love that.

The one about the confra boys might have outsold all the other stories. It was delicate, intricately written and touching. I really felt their relationship.

The one about the guy and wife and his kids that have passed away that’s a tragically stunning story. Stunning.

The story of the free babe and the alcoholic guy not bad, cute yet wearable gowns.

“Then I lifted my fingers and let the music play” this was a good second story, enjoyable.

I love the writing and the actual story, maybe it’s because I’m a SLUT for friends to lovers done well, but I literally want to sleep on a pillow made out of this writing style.

So far so descriptive.

So far the man character is giving projections of her own hopes and dreams onto her daughter and this a character who should know better. I have no idea who her love interest could be at this point.

So far, so adequate. I can really tell the theme of the book the author is trying to convey which is always a good thing. I guess.
