I accidentally went back and finished book 2, and now I'm kinda hate-reading book 3. My need for completion of plot is driving it. It ain't the writing or the characters. (actually, the characters I care about are Nesta, Elaine, Morgan, Azrael.)

This is atrociously bad and I am hate-reading (listening) to the end. Poppy is very very dumb. Hawk/Prince dude is not good. Why did I spend an audible credit on this before I checked my review of book 1?

This was very dark, very grim, unrelentingly so. There is very little joy or happiness or light in this one.

Now 18% in and up to 4 fat-hating character descriptions with great detail about the grossness of their bodies. I'm still reading out of spite and to keep count, but also because there are so many words and it's bitterly satisfying to continue.

Okay. I'm two hours into the audiobook - the narrator is EXCELLENT - but I've had to listen to longish pieces about characters who are dieting, with great detail about their strategies, and is there much more of this? Like, how much fatphobic/diet bullshit is built into this book? If these characters recur, or other characters get into this level detail, I'm probably gonna bail.

oh this is gooooood. Oh. Yes. Listening to the audiobook narrated by Chiwetel Ejiofor. Fantastic.

I'm bailing on this. I just don't care enough for 30 more hours of audio.

Listening to the audiobook, 10 chapters in, and like... I'm continuing because it's audio and I can kind of background it. Would never have kept going in a paper book. it's gross, (literally, every bodily fluid is well represented, in all the ways). It's so far extremely depressing and no one is likeable except maybe Sugar but she doesn't get enough of her own POV. And yet I'm still listening, a little at a time.

of course it's too long and in need of editing. But I forgive it because hey, it's written, and it moves the story forward, and things happen, and the characters grow and change and the world (and universe) is getting more and more intriguing. And dang it, I realized 3/4 of the way through there's a novella in between books 3 and 4 and how did I miss that??? Gotta go back and find it now.
