getting insane verity vibes from this and listen. i liked verity but my standards have shot up since then and ive become far more picky so this is really bugging me. but alas. for book club!

I hate to say it I’m getting bad vibes. Because why are the only other women/girls so far annoying and erratic and the men calm collected and attractive? Some of these lines read like Hoover and we know how I feel about that. But this book is for book club and the chapters are short so I’ll continue giving it a shot. It’s not bad by all means but some of the writing just takes me out of the story.

Let me make sure I understand the cast:
Red-the narrator, poor, family problems
Maddie-the friend, nice I guess but has too much pity
Simon-the drunk one, makes too many stupid jokes
Arthur-the nice guy, does Red kinda like him?
Oliver-Maddie’s brother, kind of a dick?
Reyla-the driver? is she someone’s girlfriend?
Also if I spelt someone’s name wrong it’s cause I’m listening to the book LMAO help

Nothing like listening to an audiobook where people get lost driving in the dark while you take a wrong turn driving in the dark.

At least I had good service and a talking maps app I guess?

I started this ages ago and never logged it in my reading bc I assumed it’d be one of those books I started but never actually got into, and now I’m almost halfway done! Hoping to finish it before Libby returns it against my will since it is pretty enticing albeit a little slow paced.

This is bordering on ridiculous! You have circumstantial evidence that you know who the killer is, so you....goad him with a fake seance? And then you're surprised when he retaliates? Like idk if this is victim blaming because it didn't happen to her but Louise should've seen that coming. And one of the sisters telling her not to take pity on herself like bro she's GRIEVING?????? HELLO???

But like seriously. You close the case and then another girl is attacked and the next step isn’t to reopen the case? Maybe I just don’t have an understanding of how police stuff works. And this is waaayyyy too repetitive I don’t know if it’s just an audiobook thing. Hopefully I’ll finish this tonight/tomorrow cause I’d like to move on tbh.

Also if the killer leaves the girls’ corpses in front of Maggie’s, why not have someone stake out Maggie’s for the night? Am I stupid?

idk I’m just not convinced by this book? it reads really juvenile and even the intense parts i kinda just. okay whatever. but i can’t be bothered to dnf lol

Too many names!!!!! I listened to this while driving except I was so scared of the wet/snowy road I didn't really pay attention so I'm still a little bit lost. Maybe I'll figure it out soon enough?

This one’s like Frankenstein in the sense that you think you have a sense of the plot but it turns out there’s A Guy at the beginning who’s kind of irrelevant but who gets told the story along with you

I hate to say it but this has very similar vibes to a mystery short story I wrote in the seventh grade…..

Just realized my edition of this book is well. The one that’s just the first half of this book. Anyways.

I think the conversational style means it could be a really good audiobook? I might give it a try in the new year to be honest
