A brutal work of fiction set in a Russia ruled by a King and his department of Oprichniks. There are also moments of satire that made me chuckle a few times. But beware, as this work can be quite cruel at times.

I've one of those bad reading slumps.

So far, I understand the camp hierarchy described by Dostoyevsky. What's understandable is that the main character was once a gentleman. The inmates mistreat him because of his social class.
