I was hesitant to read The Snows of Kilimanjaro, but as I delve deeper into it, I enjoy it. The interaction between the narrator and his wife, both unnamed, reads beautifully. The story is divided with the writer's backstory, conveyed through short flashbacks, and some background of their marriage from the narrator's perspective. It's an exquisite way to tell a story.

I used to think that encountering alien civilisations (which look like us) would be frightening. What if we find a spaceship travelling through the cosmos, but when we try to communicate with it, we discover that, much like the Mayans who have been dead for centuries, the inhabitants of this craft have been dead for millions of years?

I had no doubt Joyce was also a great poet...
