Ah yes, book five of eight, perfect time to introduce new paper thin characters if you want to be entirely sure that I don't care about them at all.

Blah blah blah titans, trying to emulate Dan Abnett and failing miserable.
Blah blah blah another mediocre 30k book.

Language is quite good though.

This book sure is impressed by itself.
I wonder if the Johnny Truant bits are supposed to be utterly unbearable. By now I skim them, secrets be damned.

This book could have been five stars, if it didn't try so desperatly.

Maybe the scary bit comes soon and I'll change my mind.

What a silly, extremely overwrought book.

I'll stay for the ride, but I'm not impressed with the odd cryptology.
The whole searching for codes thing, given it up, not googling either. Came to realise half the signs and codes could be imagined or be placed as red herrings.

If the book can't merit judgment on its own, without putting in an additional 100 hours of studying it, I guess it's not a good book.

Oh yes, for inexplicable reason, I absolutely had to have the gigantic version which I can't sit with in any comfortable position.

I don't know, something about Joe Abercrombie's writing style just resonates a lot with me. It flows wonderfully, but it's not without force or beauty and definitely not without humour.

It's written well and funny, but that was almost a given. Unfortunately, it's also very plodding and sorta boring - nothing's really happened for a loooong time.

Yea, it's definitely Pratchett's style.

Awesome badass Lord of the Edge does lots of crime and survives assassinations 🤷‍♀️ I'd forgotten that's what I liked about Vlad Taltos: the unapologetic edgelording.
