Very good! It is real history with ghost stories mixed-in. Matthew should have pinpointed as clearly as possible when the paranormal activity had occurred. He only broadly or blankly names the events or sometimes a decade. We want to know when. Also, someone who runs a ghost walk ought to know that "supernatural" defines fake ghouls like vampires, so that is jarring. "Paranormal" means real things like spirits.

A return to Phyllis A. Whitney's hard to find youth adventures is a joy. This time we are in her birthplace, Japan, in 1958!

I have found one story I like. It is the one of two that did not contain cheating couples. I know that betrayal exists but I can't believe Maeve spent so much time writing about it in this old compilation.

I likekd "Victoria Line" far better, which was more recent but which preceded "Central Line" in this duology. I wish I were reading in publishing order, for it seems I would have saved the best for last the way I like to. Maybe the first few stories are depressing and against my principles (cheating viewed as something normal!!!!) and the best tales will conclude the 1978 collection after all.

My sole criticism through all this large, dense hardcover book is that I hope Katherine is done with the ancient throwback scenes. With only 100+ pages left, I need to see the modern heroine looking at her precious manuscripts, making something of them, and physically following those clues to an awesome, mystical, Indiana Jones type revelation like her masterful novel "The Eight". No more history: come on, action!

I do not like the segues to olden times like I did in "The Eight". They switch over time and do not feature set secondary characters. They are dry and long enough that I always longed to return to the present, which I did not feel in "The Eight". However, I like many things better about "The Circle" and regard them both as five-star gems. This story is all about the heroine's family. The first heroine was alone.

I love this book so much, I can't believe it. I am relieved it is going to continue for 554 pages. I hope Katherine makes her a sequel a decade or two into the future, like she did for "The Eight". I know better to ignore any low review of this and hope my readers do, too. Anyone who did not at least appreciate the historical scope that Katherine carried in her multicultural threads is too jaded to give credence.

I am loving this and receiving a world history education too! Why are the books I deem amazing riddled with low grades by other people? Are they hard to impress, or do they complain about any book that isn't written in the usual stale formula? Originality is my bread & butter! Katherine Neville fans will get the fond "bread & butter" expression. It reappears here and was in "The Eight", one of my top favourites.

Good-bye with a sad heart to 2021 for being sacred to us. It is the final year our cat children, Spirit & Marigold, stood on Earth with us.

I also bid adieu with love to my Uncle Dennis, my friend Kerri's horse Jimmy, my friend's Mom who is a second-Mom to me, and my Sister-in-law's Mom.

I bid farewell to my friend Barbi's Dad, two cats, and spouse's dog. I also pay respect to friends Linda's & Jeanne's husbands.

We do not know where the story is going to turn. What a loss and setback! For the protagonists, it is hard. For readers, Sylvain Neuvel's book literally is wide open. I wish a Merry Christmas and greatly appreciated blessings to all of my friends!

Whew, I am hooked! I feel that the odd storytelling through memos, interviews, and journal logs works and pushes the story forward to the essential parts. It is all dialogue, with the sporadic internal journalling thoughts of protagonists adding that feeling of narration that we might have felt that we missed. "Ingenius" is a word that I feel describes Sylvain Neuvel's composing of such an original oeuvre! Bravo!

I am impressed. Either this fine new Canadian author knows science well, or is so creative, he can fabricate a logical premise for his fiction. I also applaud people who reinvent the storytelling wheel, even if I am unsure the style is for me. Let us see!
