Oh gosh, I thought this would be about a group of kids solving mysteries. I do like the protagonist's uncle, even if he swears and drinks too much. It is nice that he brought his same sex partner to babysit the child and spend time with her. But I loathe that partner, Devon, a terrible gay stereotype! The diva personality would be annoying to me on anyone, including another woman! He ruins the whole book for me.

This story is very bizarre and I am unsure which genre it is entertaining but I will see where it goes. I have had it for years I think. I appreciate its originality.

So good from the first word!!!! Oh, it is as excellent, intelligent, unique, action-packed, well-crafted, sympathetic, and compelling as I remembered it to be (Do you see what I did there?) from elementary school!

I have not read this since I was a child in about 1986! I have sought my own copy for about 30 years! Thanks to my friend, Kerri, I have it for Christmas! I have at long last taken to bed to read.... "The Mystery Of The Stuttering Parrot"!

I am really enjoying this novel, even though I am aware of a slowly building pace. The people, situations, and music worlds with whom Martha Grimes slowly acquaints us is fulfilling to me. I love Melrose Plant and Richard Jury but like most of these guest personages too and it is full of animal love. I am curious about how other fans and also plain readers liked this story and mystery. I hope its quality is felt.

I got ahead without falling asleep too early. Onward we go! Bedtime readers snuggle under the covers earlier if we have to.

I am enjoying Martha Grimes' familiar humour from page one, about loveable characters and the eccentricities observed in new locations. A cockatoo peers out of livingroom foliage, a spider repairs its web in Richard's office, and Cyril boldly tinkles the glass inside chief superintendent A.E. Racer's wooden cabinet.

You would think I could breeze through more than 10 pages a night but I fell asleep each time. Zzz.

Very good! It is real history with ghost stories mixed-in. Matthew should have pinpointed as clearly as possible when the paranormal activity had occurred. He only broadly or blankly names the events or sometimes a decade. We want to know when. Also, someone who runs a ghost walk ought to know that "supernatural" defines fake ghouls like vampires, so that is jarring. "Paranormal" means real things like spirits.

A return to Phyllis A. Whitney's hard to find youth adventures is a joy. This time we are in her birthplace, Japan, in 1958!
