This is magnificent in description, craftmanship, plot, characters, pace, emotions, and utterly memorable. Everything about it is unique and produces a richness, far above the construction or feel of an average mystery novel. The intellectual depth and consideration of life and feelings are why Louise Penny's work must never be labelled a "cozy mystery". The naturally timed outbursts of swearing are realistic too.

So good, profound, which is why I won't allow the mistake of anyone putting this in a "cozy mystery" category. Louise's narration and dialogue is always examining life in a seamless but memorable flow that moves the mysteries forwared. These are so intellectual, stimulating, and enjoyable the mystery almost wouldn't matter, did she not craft that whole ensemble together so well. I crave blueberries and cheese now!

A wonderful story experience with a unique environment to savour and explore. I love the theme of music having a divine source and reaction on those who express and hear that singing.

It is wonderful to return to the great characters of Louise Penny's series, without going to Three Pines! I find the tone more mysterious and serious whenever the team is elsewhere in the world. That village has people mistaking an intelligent, complex exposition on life with a "cozy mystery". Moving apart from that sappy little place, you see this is unquestionably "standard mystery", with serious adult subjects.

I am zooming towards the answers of this story rapidly now. I wish authors would not use the present tense and I am tired of certain nations calling everything about a front or back yard "a garden". The garden is the soil where plants grow; not a word for everyplace with grass. "Crisps" and "trainers" also throws you off. In North America we say "a bag of chips" and "runners". However, this story is compelling.

This is from my parents for Christmas in 2006. I am likely to have read it but it is time to read all of my books fresh and make a record of enjoying, savouring, and appreciating it. I miss Mom very much of course and am taking advantage of every dedication and note she wrote for me.

I am starting out and don't doubt that this is going to be a suspenseful fictional trip and thank the Lord for that. One initial critique is that I and most people I know of, loathe the present tense. It is so jarringly not the way stories are normally told, it takes me out of enjoying the narration completely. Stories should be written in the past tense, whether the first or third person are being narrated.

A wonderful novel and setting. I hope Kate Milford returns to Milton and the Pines in present day, after her historical fiction sojourns. I prefer modern day, which is not en vogue at the moment.

Good fun, mystery, and paranormal escapades. One of my other favourite things about this series is the pair of children being taken seriously by adults as investigators of what is awry on their home turf. They proved their mettle with the last mysteries the previous year.

Zooming along and loving the humour as well as the slowly unfolding stories. Measured pacing works well because Kate Milford excels at storytelling, creating memorable colourful characters, realistic emotions, hilarity that is absolutely bonkers, and the perfect atmosphere of intrigue too. I love suspense without horror and these are my kind of mysteries.

I cheerful return, replete with old style storytelling and acquainting strangers, to Greenglass House.

Welcome back, Greenglass House! Are they in Canada or some isolated, intricate turf? The referred to American currency as foreign. That is an interesting little mystery for me to solve. This is a thrillingly thick novel promising a lot of adventure and delight for hours ahead! Woo hoo!

This is so good, I had to push myself to stop reading it to watch my weekly favourite television show with my spouse, "Star Trek Discovery". No, dial-up internet is connected to the phone line, not our television and is too slow to download or stream anything. I used to download a show a week to rewatch but it took 3 days of tying up the phone line. You see the choice a great show balanced with an excellent novel!

Best book ever! Just as deliciously, originally, alluringly, humorously, and completely as "Truly Devious"; I am flying through this mystery story with glee night and day, letting nothing get in my way. My spouse is on alert for its sequel too.

Wow! This is another excellent novel that has my invested whole-heartedly! It is very different from Maureen Johnson's "Truly Devious" and nevertheless fulfills another style of mystery-solving quest that I yearn for. In its own way, with a heroine I love and respect from the start, here is another best book ever tailor fit for me! This is another home run by my dear spouse for my birthday, mine to enjoy!

This is the book I have awaited all my reading years. Mystery solving that is about clues and a passionate person investigating, instead of a detective focusing on a job or crime case, is what I live for in literature! This is for real mystery fans. Ignore anyone who might call it "young adult" or "children's". I am in awe and will be reading it all day! This is the best birthday present my spouse could give me!

This is exactly my kind of pure mystery solving novel and I have wanted it since I found out about it about two years ago! Let me define that: in this story, a crime occurred but it is far in the past. The focus, atmosphere, tone, and direction of this story are entirely about the mystery and quest of a civilian heroine answering a question: a non-crime mystery. I am elated my spouse bought this for my birthday!
