A surprising, rare find! I did not know Joan Parr compiled local authors' short stories 8 years prior to "Manitoba Stories"! The first had me finishing it immediately, when I only sought an example of the first page's writing. I opened it while I was gleefully putting away the treasures from my shopping expedition with my spouse. Local charity sales are happy sprees to go on!

This is very inventive, even though I can do without historic periods.

I far prefer stories that are modern. I urge Kate Milford to reprise those, now that we have met the Bluecrownes and how they started Greenglass House. It makes me want to revisit the present day family and look about their house with my new knowledge. However, Kate is a fine storyteller. Once I got my feet wet in this third but historic look back, I loved these characters too and am zooming through the chapters.

To say "the plot thickens" in seriousness would not dispel the quip that it sounds like I were making. The thickness of this non-stop, engrossing plot is an understatement! Minus overextending the sketching of backgrounds to introduce minor characters, as Elizabeth George does, I can see that a fair amont of the 718 pages were central to her intricately crafted mystery. Well done!

I meant to record 51% progress in Emily Carroll's comic romance; not that page number where there are only 12.

In the first novel, I loathed Barbara Havers but admired Thomas Lynley's compassion for her. In the second, I shared the compassion. By the third, I was Barbara's fan. Barbara positively starred in the last two novels, with Thomas hardly in them. Now I am her cheerleader. This time, the tables turned and I loathe Thomas Lynley. I did not anticipate that. Elizabeth George really knows how to develop characters!
