Elizabeth George, you did it again. The threads of all of your stories are engrossing and fit well. I can't put this book down and am no longer balking that it is 1009 pages. I wish you would mainly focus on the protagonists Barbara, Tommy, Helen and I would be more interested right away if you start with them. However, the unfamiliar personages are coming together and I am reading in daylight, which I do not do.

Elizabeth George has one flaw, putting readers through detailed accounts of far distant characters of her fiction. I only want to the know protonagists' points of view. I don't mind sharing between Barbara Havers and Helen & Thomas Lynley. Building sympathy for victims while alive is powerful but a rough feeling, if they are killed. Elizabeth did not want anonymous victims. Please leave out narration of killers.

It is time I enjoy Maureen Johnson's earlier work, with much to savour and relish on my shelves later!
