The story is interesting, there's just so many tangents! The tangents are mostly interesting, but some are just Hugo's ranting social commentary. Still, I'm making progress. Valjean is Valjean again, Fantine is dead, and Cosette is about to enter the story for real.

5 1/2 hours into a 57 1/2 hour book - so far it's remarkably readable. However, Hugo goes off on so many tangents that I'm not sure I'd ever make it through the printed version. The tangents are sufficiently interesting, but there are way too many of them! No wonder the book is 1300+ pages long.

I absolutely loved Donaghue's novel The Room so I put this one my tbr expecting the same kind of character driven suspense. Um, NO!

Oh my goodness, it's a slog. Does it get better?? Is it worth continuing? I have such a thing about finishing books I start but this one is killing me.

Some relatable and some really touching stories/essays so far. I'm enjoying the different voices and povs.

In 2021 my plan was to skip the book prompt challenges & just finish all the series that I've started & work on my TBR. But, there are so many good challenges (Popsugar, Bookriot, Read Harder, AtY, BookRiot, etc.) I'm torn. By August I'm always sick of prompts & want to just read, but I'm a box checker and can't not finish the challenge if I start. Ugh! New ideas??Suggestions from my fellow book lovers out there?

This has come up available on my library wish list multiple times and I kept putting it off. Today I finally started it and it's absolutely fantastic so far. I'm listening to the audio book and the accents just add so much. Having fun so far, about 2 hours in (9 hours total).

In honor of Banned Books Week 2020 (I never had to read it in high school) I will finish it. But, why on earth is this required reading in so many high schools??? I'm bored out of my mind and have yet to see any redeeming qualities to this book. Please tell me it gets better. Also, my current two cents: if this were written today, it would not have been banned or challenged, nor would it be required reading.

This one is killing me. I HATE giving up on a book! I think I've only ever quit 6 books in my adult life. But, every time I think I've had enough, it gets interesting for a while. Then it starts dragging again.

It started out interesting, but has slowed to a slog. I'm switching to the audio book in the hopes that it will help it move along and get more interesting sooner.

Started this on my lunch break today and read 118 pages in an hour. Fun middle great read that's actually quite enjoyable for this 40-something mom/children's librarian. So far I'm enjoying it and definitely recommend it!

I can't believe I've made it this far! This book has been boring from the beginning, but I'm just not a quitter so I persevere. However, I'm listening to the audio while I commute so that helps me not give up. I'm having a hard time understanding all the five star ratings or how this ever got on my tbr to begin with. Sigh.

This came up free on audiobooksync.com so I decided to give it a try. It's a good thing I'm listening while I do other things (dishes, laundry, commute to work, etc.) because, although there's been some interesting stuff, I most certainly could not get through this in a printed version - it's just not gripping enough. But, I'm learning things I never knew about Van Gogh & family so if that interests you, try it!

It's been pretty interesting and it's an ARC so I know I'll finish it so I can write a review, but oh my goodness the constant profanity is just killing me. I have 4 kids (3 of whom are currently teens and one an adult) so I know teens swear, but seriously, every other word?? Come one, They're teens, not Marines! Sigh. I really wish authors would recognize that profanity loses its power when it's overused.

I'm only a couple chapters in and already the main character is bugging me. He seems to lack any integrity or backbone. Hopefully as more of his back story is revealed he'll become more likeable, or at least more respectable because right now I am not impressed!

I'm glad I got this one on audio, the text is definitely heavy and a bit dated, but the narrator is really bringing the story to life!

It's good/interesting enough that I want to know what happens, but I'm bored (and have been for awhile). The series should have ended with book 3. Sigh.

I enjoy this book every time I pick it up, but it's not yet exciting enough that I'm excited to pick it up. I think I've finished at least 4 or 5 other books since I started this one. I'm not giving up, I'm just not very motivated.
