The main things I did not like:

1. Aelin/Rowan - I don't hate Rowan but there's something missing from him or something that stops me from properly liking him. I really liked him back when he was first introduced and he was an arsewipe and when there was this hate friendship between him and Aelin but then Queen of Shadows happened and it was all a bit UGH. I love Aelin, but seriously, does every character have to fall for her? Sam, Dorian, Chaol, Rowan... I've warmed to the pairing slightly but I'm now mourning the loss of my last little bit of hope for her and Chaol to reunite. I know a lot has changed over the course of the series but still. Saying that, a ship is not enough for me to give up on a fantasy series and I get disappointment from fans but I noticed a lot gave up on the series after Aelin/Rowan happened and I just don't get it? OH, and certain scenes between the two are really cringey.

2. I miss Chaol. I miss him a lot more than I thought I would. He was one of my favourite characters in the earlier books. Every mention of him in Empire of Storms was a thudding pain. BUT I WILL NOT GIVE UP HOPE ON HIM. I sense big things coming and I hope I'm not wrong.

So yeah, nothing major, not enough to dull my enjoyment much. BUT JUST IMAGINE HOW MUCH MORE AMAZING THINGS WOULD BE.

I loved this. I really did. Such great characters. I love pretty much all of them. Aelin, Dorian, Aedion, Manon, Elide, Lysandra, even Lorcan!! The cast has got so much bigger but I find nearly all of them interesting and awesome in their own ways and I'm attached to so many of them. I never thought I'd really warm to Dorian but he's now one of my favourites!!

And the ships!!! New ones, old ones, nearly ones... I should be more like ugh everyone's pairing off or at least wanting to, but I love the characters and I get REALLY INVESTED.

And the plot keeps me interested and it's wonderful to see things fitting together, stuff that was set in place earlier in the series and now just being revealed. I really get the sense of danger and there were so many parts where my heart was in my mouth. I'm going to have to do a reread of the series before the next book comes out though. I am also glad that I've read The Assassin's Blade because although I didn't love that collection of stories, it made some parts of this book better for me because I already knew some of the background to characters and events that were mentioned.

I NEED THE NEXT BOOK. That ending was cruel. Omg, how am I going to wait another year or however long it takes? ...more "
