Told in alternating chapters from Kinsey's familiar voice, and third person from Solana's we see the women sta

Having made a study of picture book biographies of artists, I have discovered getting it right is tricky to give young readers a real FEEL for the work as they learn about the artists' lives.

This one is delicious. Written in present tense, it shows u

Kinsey hangs in there...in this book, she's 'babysitting' a newly-released Reba...trying to keep her from self-destructing, while working an FBI sting, and keeping dealing with her new boyfriend. Cross, double-cross, and lots of action.

Another one that is so strong...the title has a double meaning. And I love that. The author's epilogue tells us that this case was inspired by a real missing girl, and I think Grafton hoped she could help send that girl home.

Loved this one.

Ursula K. Le Guin
“Meaning - this is perhaps the common note, the bane I am seeking. What is the Meaning of this book, this event in the book, this story ... ? Tell me what it Means.

But that is not my job, honey. That's your job.”
Ursula K. Le Guin, No Time to Spare: Thinking About What Matters

Ursula K. Le Guin
“Large, general questions about meaning, etc., can only be answered with generalities, which make me uncomfortable, because it is so hard to be honest when you generalize. If you skip over all the details, how can you tell if you’re being honest or not?”
Ursula K. Le Guin, No Time to Spare: Thinking About What Matters

Ursula K. Le Guin
“Words are my matter—my stuff. Words are my skein of yarn, my lump of wet clay, my block of uncarved wood.”
Ursula K. Le Guin, No Time to Spare: Thinking About What Matters

Ursula K. Le Guin
“Meaning in art isn’t the same as meaning in science. The meaning of the second law of thermodynamics, so long as the words are understood, isn’t changed by who reads it, or when, or where. The meaning of Huckleberry Finn is.”
Ursula K. Le Guin, No Time to Spare: Thinking About What Matters

Brené Brown
“We're going to need to intentionally be with people who are different than us. We're going to have to sign up, join, and take a seat at the table. We're going to have to learn how to listen, have hard conversations, look for joy, share pain, and be more curious than defensive, all while seeking moments of togetherness.”
Brené Brown, Braving the Wilderness: The Quest for True Belonging and the Courage to Stand Alone
