This is a group to track progress of this particular reading challenge for 2017. The challenge consists of 20 books (no doubling up on categories!) and shouldn't be too hard as the categories are pretty broad. We won't be mad at you if you don't finish either. This is just for fun! The challenge is as follows... Read: a book released in 2017 a book written before 1900 a non-fiction book a kids book a YA novel a book of fantastical fiction (fantasy/scifi/paranormal) a cozy mystery a debut novel a book of poetry or drama (that is to say a play, not just ~dramatic~) a biography/autobiography/memoir a book written by someone under the age of 30 a media tie-in (clarification in a thread) an LGBTQIA* book a book about food a scary/creepy book a book that is part of a series but not the first book (could be a later released prequel though) a Goodreads Choice Awards winner (any year, any category) a book with an animal on the cover a book mostly set in the desert a book that was adapted into a movie BONUS: watch a movie that was based on a book! (maybe make it the same as #20) Of course you can read book that fit many of the categories but you can only use each book for one. And yes, graphic novels count. If you read a graphic novel about queer kids, why not count it as your LGBTQIA book? I’d say numbers 4 through 8 should be fiction, whereas the rest can be non-fiction as well if you so choose! I suppose poetry/drama (number 9) automatically becomes fiction as well though? Hit the discussion boards to talk about the books you read and to ask any and all questions. Make your own threads! The members of this groups will probably be very happy to give you recommendations for certain categories if you ask. Feel free to add books to the group shelf, and create a new category shelf if you're the first to finish a book in that category. This way people can look at the shelves and get ideas, but this is no requirement. Maybe add books if you really liked them? And finally: good luck! ...more
