"I loved this Note to Self "Anger doesn't make you ungrateful for surviving. Sometimes it's just proof that you understand exactly what survival costs you."
This chapter definitely highlights the things that those around you will not understand. Anger was constantly coming for me during grief and I came out of it with the same sentiment. Izzy is the only one I've experienced this with because nobody talks about it."

Hanya Yanagihara
“To me, the thing about friendship that makes it so singular is that it’s a relationship that’s central to our identity in that it doesn’t necessarily benefit us in any tangible way. It’s a relationship we don’t have to pursue – if we decide to stop being friends one day, nothing will happen, no one’s there to legislate or adjudicate it. It’s two people who every day choose to keep it going, and in that way it’s very powerful because it’s one you choose to work on, and you choose to without any agreement; it’s an unspoken bond.”
Hanya Yanagihara

Dexter Palmer
“If the worst thing a physicist could say about a statement is that it was “false,” the best thing he could say is that it was “interesting.”
Dexter Palmer, Version Control

Michael Chabon
“The rocket was beautiful. In conception it had been shaped by an artist to break a chain that had bound the human race ever since we first gained consciousness of earth's gravity and all it's analogs in suffering, failure and pain. It was at once a prayer sent heavenward and the answer to that prayer: Bear me away from this awful place.”
Michael Chabon, Moonglow

Michael Chabon
“Usually, you could rely on Americans to believe the worst about their heroes, but nobody wanted to hear that America’s ascent to the Moon had been made with a ladder of bones.”
Michael Chabon, Moonglow

Dexter Palmer
“I can’t comprehend why any black man with even a lick of sense would have the slightest bit of interest in time travel. Going backward in time? A black man? You have got to be out of your mind.”
Dexter Palmer, Version Control
