A short 4-day tango-related (husband DJing) trip to San Miguel de Allende. I Spy on the patio in front of our room.

So lovely pictures, Sylvia and Karen! Thank you for sharing them.

It seems that I Spy has been traveling a lot lately... and it also seems that Sylvia's favorite reading spot while on holiday looks a lot like my favorite reading spot for the last couple of weeks... ;)

Maldives, Lhaviyani atoll, Kuredu island. Do you spy Josh's book?

description

And here is another pic with I Spy (and hubby's The Twelve) in it. Wajeeh, our friendly room boy, surprised us one night by creating a super romantic bed decoration for us. When we returned to the villa after diner, we almost turned back from the door, because we both thought that we'd entered the wrong villa. It was such a shame to disassemble the heart and the flowers — I almost prepared to sleep on the floor that night. ;)

Anyway, you guys would have loved Kuredu. After taking my shoes of when arriving there I didn't put them on even once during the two weeks (I didn't need even the flip-flops I'd packed with me). It was such a joy to feel the warm, powdery sand underneath our feet and between our toes the whole time. Even the restaurants had sand floors!

And I'm sure that Josh would have enjoyed the ocean wave "soundtrack" playing 24/7. We were living in a villa build above the ocean and even when lying in bed about to fall in sleep I could hear the soothing sound of waves underneath me. So sweet. :)

So, it turned out that while I was traveling around for years, all that time there was this tiny, only 1,5 kilometers long island in the Indian Ocean that turned out to be the perfect place for relaxation. I think it's useless to say that I fell head over heals in love with Kuredu, it's white sands and the amazing turquoise ocean around it. The water was so clear that it felt like swimming in a gigantic aquarium. Too bad I can't post all the 1500 photos we took underneath the surface. *grin* 'Cause I do have a lot of wonderful pics of those sting rays, turtles and sharks! ;)

We didn't have internet access, but I did think about you guys occasionally. And here is the proof of it (the text inside the heart says JOSH'S GR GROUP).

Only a couple of shark pics, maybe? (Because I promised Hj.)

description

This little guy is Tim (or that's what we started calling him after he'd payed us a few visits). He is a beautiful black tip reef shark baby — a "friendly" shark. :) He practiced swimming in currents beside our villa every day and kept the smaller fish on their toes (well, that doesn't sound right, now does it).

Here is Tim with some other fish. He really was tiny, just about two feet long I think:

description

Even though we knew that the sharks were not aggressive it was quite impressive to see the bigger ones swim by while we where snorkeling. And you should have seen hubby's face, when he went out to the terrace the first morning and a shark longer than him swam underneath the terrace. :) Can't say I wasn't a bit surprised either. It's another thing to know that there are a lot of sharks around that to see one with your own eyes. ;)

Wow, I'm impressed, how brave to snorkel between sharks. Knowing that those particular sharks aren't dangerous is not the same as feeling it :) It looks like you had a great time on that beautiful island.

Calathea wrote: "Maybe having no internet access had something to do with the relaxation factor, too?"

Definitely! We came home yesterday and I still haven't dared to read my emails... I'm saving it for tomorrow. ;)

There actually was three spots on the island with the Wi-Fi, but after hubby once walked to one of them to read his emails and came back surly, we decided to NOT to use Wi-Fi again. I don't think I've been without internet for two weeks before. At first it felt weird, but after the first shock it felt wonderful, very liberating. So yes, you are absolutely right. This had a lot to do with the high relaxation factor for both of us! :)

Sylvia wrote: "Wow, I'm impressed, how brave to snorkel between sharks. Knowing that those particular sharks aren't dangerous is not the same as feeling it :)"

It actually wasn't the sharks I was most worried about, but the sting rays. Those things were huge with their long tails and scary looking stings and they dug themselves in the sand on the seafloor. The sharks, those you saw coming and going, but if you would accidentally step on the sting ray or snorkel right above him in the shallow water it would have pissed the ray off and he could have easily killed you with his sting.

This is probably the perfect time for vacations -- I know right about now I start feeling restless and wanting something to happen. But maybe all I want is a change of scenery. And perhaps a delicious dinner with an amazing view?

Oh yeah. LOL. And speaking about priceless expressions... I don't know what is it with us, but every time we travel one of our books ends up in the ocean. This time that unfortunate book was Harper Fox's The Salisbury Key. Somehow it just slipped from my hand into the ocean while I was reading it on the terrance.

description

description

You guys should have seen the expressions on the faces of the French couple next door. First they heard a loud cry when I lost my grip on the book and only a second after that a big SPLASH when I jumped after the book in the water (the ocean was 1,5 meters below me)! I was so fast that the whole book didn't even get thoroughly wet, only the outer sides of the pages!

Anyway, from that moment on we became friends with the couple next door and I think that every time they saw me reading on the terrance they smiled a little. So, who says that books and reading don't connect people. ;)

(And sorry about the fact that these two pictures don't have anything to do with Josh's books...)

NOT THAT I'M CRITICIZING. But I don't think the water will quench this book's thirst. Karen, you have to take the book into a pub or a wine bar or something! Think of the book's reputation!

Exactly! The other books are going to start whispering about this book and saying it has a drinking problem if Karen makes it stick to water!
