I guess you only need a bathing suit and some sun lotion so you can use all the allowed kilos on the plane for your books :) I believe you will have a lovely vacation with all these great books together with white sand, clear blue sea and sun.

Wonderful reading material! I have only one of them in print and that is Wicked Gentlemen. I guess you're taking some e-reading stuff as well? Or is it that actual books are better for the beach because water and electronics don't mix well? ;)

The pile of books does look surprisingly big in the picture... ;) But yep, not planning to take for example other shoes than only flip-flops with me. Somebody wrote on the net that one doesn't need any shoes on the island. So that'll alone leave some room for books... :)

I'm REALLY looking forward to reading Wicked Gentlemen! That is one of the books that have sitting on my bookshelf waiting for the spring break for months now! :)

Yeah, I did some ebook shopping yesterday and today. These are waiting to be read on my iPad:

Take It Off (Market Garden, #2) by L.A. Witt Once a Brat by Kim Dare Pressure Head by J.L. Merrow The Other Guy by Cary Attwell Almost Like Being in Love by Steve Kluger Tinseltown by Barry Brennessel Bad Boyfriend (Bad in Baltimore, #2) by K.A. Mitchell

... and now I realize that I've clearly been overestimating the amount of time I'll have for reading these all... ;)

Reggie Vacation is such a great **cough** reason to stock up on books. You can't run out of BOOKS! You're trapped on an Island. What would happen if your internet went out? Oh noes!!!

I think you better load-up your Ipad... just in case. But it is good you're bringing so many paperbacks- in case the electricity goes out, ;)

Johanna, are these all new books for you or are some of them re-reads? I've read 5 of them and love 4 of them. :-) The books I haven't read are keeping such great company that you're making me want to add them to my reading list.

The choice of books just gets better and better! But I'm not sure you'll have enough? Seriously - 17 days on a tropical island? You'll need more than one per day! I strongly suggest some audio books; they're the best thing for lying in the warmth (sun or shade), with your eyes closed or gazing over the beautiful sea. They're also good for the aeroplane. And I heard that some good ones came out recently...

Hope you have a lovely holiday.

Yep. I'll take a picture for you guys. In fact I think I already kind of promised Hj to try manage to arrange a shark (?!), a manta ray or a sea turtle in the same picture with Josh's book. Hmm... that'll give me something to think about for sure... I'm not going to sacrifice any Lanyon books though... or any body parts either. LOL.

Only Josh's books are going to be re-reads. The other ones I haven't read yet. So glad to hear that you liked four of the five you've read! But you got me really curious... which is the one you didn't care for? (If you don't mind me asking.) I can still leave one or two of those books home, you know... ;)

Since I've already listened to all Josh's audio books (that are currently available), I'm kind of lost what to listen to next. I did download American Love Songs yesterday and I'm also almost half way through The Casual Vacancy. I rarely manage to sleep on the plane, so listening to audiobooks is definitely something I plan to do while the other people sleep.

Any recommendations on m/m audiobooks?

I just bought LB Gregg Men of Smithfield: Mark and Tony and Men of Smithfield: Seth and David in audiobook, but I haven't listened to them yet so can't comment on the performances. Beware - they were previously published under the names Gobsmacked and Happy Ending, so you may have read them already. I liked them so was happy to re-read them via audio!

Well, the one book I didn't love is pretty damn popular, so it's probably just me. Here are the 5 I've read and see if you can pick out the one that isn't on my fave list:

Come Unto These Yellow Sands
The Persian Boy
Wicked Gentlemen
Shattered Glass
In From the Cold: The I Spy Stories

I've had to move three times in the last three years - and I can tell you, there's no better motivator to throw out anything (even books) than that. The ones I just could never make myself give away are still standing proud and tall in my shelves, but all the rest now is GONE. And I'm glad! Throwing away stuff you no longer need is a liberating experience sometimes.

Antonella | 11568 comments Katharina wrote: " Throwing away stuff you no longer need is a liberating experience sometimes."

Absolutely. For me it's just very difficult with books.

But now I've prepared something like 1,5 m books to give away, mainly psychology books. It's also necessary because I started again to buy print books in the last few months...

When we moved. That used to be when I'd go through my books and donated a box or two. Once we bought the house and stopped moving so much, my deal became keeping only my autobuy authors. Everything else is donated to the library or passed on to my parents.

Yes, I still have boxes of unpacked books (and CDs) from our last move 3 years ago, and we donated a ton before the move. I rarely buy print books any more. I never thought I'd say this when I reluctantly bought my Kindle a couple years ago, but I do not miss reading paper books at all.

Oh, that IS painful! :( I'd miss those too if I were in your shoes. National Geographic has the most amazing pictures - I'm a big fan!

I've been throwing away mostly the last book-related sins of pubertal youth and books I've kept purely out of a sense of duty because everybody told me they were awesome/interesting/must-reads-for-wannabe-intellectuals but of which I honestly thought they were at most rather average. And even though I felt some sort of attachment to the sins-of-youth kind, the wish not to seriously hurt my back while carrying the boxes won out. Thankfully.

I'm always wondering, though, how it can be that after throwing out tons of stuff your flat is still cluttered with endless amounts of... well... THINGS. Where the heck do they all come from? One of the big mysteries of life... :)
