Patricia Evans (pvevans) | 47 comments I think I read Glory In Death first then went back and read Naked and went from there. I was working at a library at the time and was reading a lot of books. It’s so hard to remember which book I read first. But as soon as I read it I went back and started form the beginning. LOL

message 52: by Sheery (new)

Sheery (wwwgoodreadscomprofilesheery) | 42 comments The first one I read was actually the second half of 'Remember When'. I only read it because it was the second half of the book - the first of which she wrote as Nora Roberts. Before this book, I had been afraid to read the 'In Death' series. I thought they would be too gruesome for my taste. After 'Remember When', I immediately bought 'Naked in Death' and read the series in order, a few books at a time.

I had been all caught up for a while and grabbing each new book on release day. Recently I've fallen a bit behind on the books, though. I am now starting 'Delusion in Death' and definitely consider this my favorite series ever. I love the character development and honestly feel like I know Eve, Roarke and all the rest of the characters. It is an outstanding series!

I wonder how many were like you and discovered this series because of Remember When. You're just about caught up but take your time. Waiting ain't fun.

message 54: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliace) I love 'Remember When'; but while I like both parts. I like the 2nd half written by JD Robb better.

Sheery (wwwgoodreadscomprofilesheery) | 42 comments Waiting for the new books is torture. In fact, I'm considering a re-read of the series once I'm caught up. I have to say that I think 'Remember When' is marketing genius. I'm certain I'm not the only person who decided I wanted to read this series as a result of the brilliant writing. And perhaps it even went the other way for some.

I vaguely recall liking the JDR half of 'Remember When' better as well. I'm thinking more and more that a re-read is in order. :)

message 56: by Lisa (new)

Lisa I am only up to book 6 but yes am reading in order. Really good books. So addictive.

Yay! So glad you're doing this. It makes a difference, IMHO.

message 58: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jenny-g) I've been listening to the books, but not in order as I can only get the ones the library has when there in. but I think I'm going to read them in order next and see the difference

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15057 comments Mod
I hope you do, Jennifer, as IMHO, I think it makes quite a difference.

message 60: by Temple (new)

Temple (templecameron) | 16 comments Jennifer, J.D. Robb had written approx 14 In Death books before I realized the connection between she and Nora Roberts. How silly of me. Anyway, I bought them all and went on a two week vacation and read them one by one until through. I still remember the fun of that two weeks, discovering Eve and Roark and how they made their lives mesh and fit. Soooo, def read them in order the first chance you get. My challenge over the years has been replacing the first paperbacks with hardbacks.

message 61: by Sheery (new)

Sheery (wwwgoodreadscomprofilesheery) | 42 comments I'm reading Naked in Death right now. I'm in the mood for a re-read of the series. Although, I'm certain it'll take me a while because I'll probably read other books in between.

I definitely read them in order. I read a few then switch off to another author awhile and then back to the In Death series. Love this series!

I wonder what I would have done if I'd discovered GR before starting the series. I had nothing to compete with these books at the time and was very content to read 35 books back to back (that's how many there were at the time).

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11212 comments Mod
I know what you mean, Jonetta. These books have been around a long time. I read alot of Nora's other 200 plus books back to back...probably wouldn't happen that way now.

message 65: by Carmel (new)

Carmel | 11 comments Started with Holiday in death. The realized there were other books before Holiday in Death. I started at the beginning for the list and now read in order. Keep track of the ones I have read on a spreadsheet ;)

message 66: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15057 comments Mod
Carmel, I use Goodreads and Shelfari to keep track. Do you still use your spreadsheet?

message 67: by Carmel (new)

Carmel | 11 comments I just found out about Good Reads for my sister in law. I had not heard about Selfari until I started reading post in this group. Sounds like I can go even more high tech with my book list;)
Need to look into Selfari as well.

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11212 comments Mod
I need to load the books to my Goodreads profile. I think I only have the first 2 on there. Just didn't take the time to load many books that I read a long time ago when I joined. I, too, need to check out Shelfari.

message 69: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15057 comments Mod
I manage all my books on Shelfari and am working to have Goodreads sync with it. At least twice a year I download a file to my computer as backup. But, my primary source of record keeping is Shelfari and then Goodreads.

Reading them in order is a must for me...I'm just that kinda girl. lol Several of us are rereading them again in the Buddy Read, Jenny. Jump in anytime!

Doesn't take long to figure that out, does it?

JSWolf | 95 comments Jonetta wrote: "Doesn't take long to figure that out, does it?"

I either read in published or chronological order depending on the series and when I start it.

message 77: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15057 comments Mod
My personal rule, too. Drives me nuts otherwise.

message 78: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11212 comments Mod
Me too. Even when individual series books will "standalone", I check the author's site and read in order.

message 79: by JSWolf (new)

JSWolf | 95 comments When I read someone's posting that a book in the middle of of a series will stand alone, I always think that's BS and usually it is. I won't start a series in the middle on purpose.

message 80: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments I first read Kindred, but quickly figured out it was a series and went back to the beginning. But I read that one book first.

She has and yet I still can't seem to get into listening to this series...have to read it.

JSWolf | 95 comments Sandra - *Starshine* wrote: "She has and yet I still can't seem to get into listening to this series...have to read it."

I prefer to read. I prefer to let the author's words and my imagination show me what's going on.

message 95: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11212 comments Mod
I do too, but was hoping to get into listening so I could carry on with some other things and still be "reading". I think I already had these characters' voices firmly in my mind before I tried listening to the audiobooks - thus, it just messes with my head when I hear the woman's voice reading them to me. I'm sure she's excellent as everyone praises the job she does. Just not for me.

message 96: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments I don't think it is necessarily one over the other. I work in an office and the day goes much faster if I listen to a book. I cannot read a book at my desk though. I am especially happy with Whispersync, because I often listen while I am driving, cleaning or walking and can then resume the book where I left off. But if they ever changed the narrator, I would probably stop buying this series in audio.

message 97: by Carol (Mocha) (new)

Carol (Mocha) | 85 comments Audio which I listen to in the car allows me to read three books at once. two to read and one to listen to. otherwise I'd really be wayyyyyy behind all of u

message 98: by Susan (new)

Susan I wish I could do audio!

message 99: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments I agree Carol. I caught up with the entire series in 6 months by combining reading and listening.

Too fast and now you have nothing new to read. I prefer to just read and take my time and enjoy instead of rushing.
