Tahleen Agreed Lori, haha. I hate that I can't hear how people want things said. Glad I didn't offend you Bonnie :)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) We just have to be like *happy tone* *sarcastic tone* *disgruntled tone* Haha.

message 203: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Maybe. Or we could just hope for the best and assume that no one would really be that insulting to someone they don't know overly well.

message 207: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker OK, this might sound like a stupid question, but for those that say, "Such and such months is ___________, so read a book that ________." Do we have to read the book during that month? Or can I read a book about love later on? It's not a big deal, but I should probably get on it if we're limited to the month.

message 208: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen I can use Mountains Beyond Mountains for a book about an illness, right?

message 209: by Lynnie (new)

Lynnie Lori, I don't think you have to read it duing that month (I'm not at least)

message 210: by Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner), The Founding Bookworm (new)

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod

Summer | 7 comments Hi! This challenge looks like a lot of fun! I hope it isn't too late to start. I was wondering what the CS group read is. Can anyone give me an example?

Thanks,

Summer | 7 comments Nevermind on the last question. I guess I blanked out and couldn't connect the dots CS College Students duh! Anyway, just forget it. :)

message 221: by [deleted user] (new)

Finished A Wrinkle in Time for 10 points as my banned/challenged book (challenge #8).

message 222: by Kate (new)

Kate (kathrynlouwca) Is it too late for me to join this challenge?

message 223: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Not at all Kathryn! We started a new thread called the "New Official 2009 School Year Challenge" where we do one post of the books we're going to read and then update our list as we finish books and/or change our minds. This thread still exists to announce what we've finished and ask questions.

You'll find the list of categories on the first page of this thread. So, figure out what books you want to read and make a post on the other thread. If you don't have all of them figured out yet, that's fine, just leave blanks.

Welcome to the challenge.

I found it on the list. I had never read it, but always wanted to. I enjoyed the book very much.. :)

Lynnie Finished French By Heart for 10 points (place you want to visit)... giving me a total of 65 points.

message 228: by Lynnie (new)

Lynnie do yall think Tweak by Nic Sheff would count as the book with a college student?

message 229: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Could I read The Snows of Kilimanjaro and Other Stories for the read a book with a location in the title? It's not exactly a city, country, or state...but it is a place...

Finished The Lucky One for 5 points as my book written in the last 5 years (challenge #9).

message 231: by [deleted user] (new)

message 232: by Lorianne (new)

Lorianne (loriannewatts) Finished Sickened, now working on Divided Minds and War and Peace (finally!)

message 233: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen I think I'm going to change my book about another religion to Emotional Awareness Overcoming the Obstacles to Psychological Balance and Compassion by the Dalai Lama... is that okay?

message 234: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Hey, Tahleen, I'll say your book is OK if you say mine is OK...

message 235: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen Haha, you know Lori I almost replied to your post saying that I didn't think there was a problem with it, but then I thought maybe I shouldn't reply since I'm not a moderator. But I'd say yours is fine. :)

message 236: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) Lynn, I totally loved French By Heart! I got an advanced copy of it from work a couple years back and loved it! I've never actually met another person who has read it until you! =)

message 237: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker This is not to be taken in a mean way, but is there another moderator aside from Jamie? (I was thinking that there was) I know Jamie's really busy with her job. It would be nice if there was another moderator who wasn't so busy that could answer these questions more quickly because since some people might be on a time budget regarding their choices.

message 238: by Lynnie (new)

Lynnie I loved it too, Kelsey! I always thought French people were rude but I learned a lot about how the French think thanks to Madame Mallet!

message 239: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) Oh, Madame Mallet! I disliked her so much at the beginning, but I'm pretty sure I loved her at the end.

Lori and Tahleen: I think both of your choices are fine. I think that Ashley is the other moderator. Regarding Jamie, if I remember right, she's on some sort of vacation right now, so Ashley is taking care of things.

message 240: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen Sweet deal. Thanks Kelsey!

message 241: by Lynnie (new)

Lynnie oh yes that Madame Mallet.. I don't know when I started liking her, but damn it I did. haha. She grows on you.

Do yall think the Reader would count as "the college student as the main character"? When it starts off he's 15, but then he's a law student. idk. I'm about to finish it I can't find any other way to fit it into the challenge

message 242: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker I'd say go for it. I think that means someone around our age.

message 243: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen Lynn, if that does count, I'm using it for that one too.

Also, I finished The Graveyard Book the other day for 15 points!

message 244: by Liz (new)

Liz Even though it's March, is it still too late to join in? I'm realizing I've met some of these requirements.

message 245: by Kate (new)

Kate (kathrynlouwca) Finished 1st to Die for 5 Points for the female main charcter one. Hated it...

message 246: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) Lynn, I say go for it too! He's a main character and he's in college at some point...
Liz: It's not too late to join in, but we started in January, so only include the books you've read since January. =)

message 247: by Lynnie (new)

Lynnie Finished The Reader for 15 points, giving me 80 points overall. It was such a quick read and pretty good. Definitely a thought provoker.

I chose to study Dorothy Day for my spirituality class (she intrigues me so much!!) so now I'm going to be working on reading her autobio The Long Loneliness for class and also for the challenge. I'm excited!

message 248: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie | 20 comments Question: Can I count Alexander McCall Smith for 10 Points, #10 (read a book written by someone of your same heritage (i.e. Belgian, Swiss, whatever))? I'm of Scottish ancestry and even though he was born in Zimbabwe, his parents were Scottish. I assume that means he counts as Scottish, right?

message 249: by Tahleen (last edited Mar 11, 2009 07:10PM) (new)

Tahleen Okay, changed my #2 in the 15-pointer range (author that lived/was born in/etc your geographical area) to Models Don't Eat Chocolate Cookies. She lives in Boston. And I finished it today! :) It's so good.

message 250: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) Yeah, he's "of Scottish ancestry" too, so I'm sure that will be fine.
