Question...Would Middlesex count for "medical condition"? I'm not sure if you would classify being transgendered as a medical condition, but what do you guys think?

Do we include all of January or only books read since Jan. 21? I'm only asking because I read several books including Jane Eyre and Bourne Identity the first couple of weeks of January.

Another question...if we are having a hard time thinking of a book we used sparknotes for in High School, can we use one we used Sparknotes for in college? Like Metamorphosis (both Kafka and Ovid) or Voltaire's Candide (wanted to read but didn't have time that semester).

It seems like I've been reading a lot of books that have been adapted to movies but they aren't out on video yet (and I don't go to theaters)...very frustrating. Also I keep reading books that are around 600 pages.

I just finished the Diving Bell and the Butterfly yesterday for a book that is related to your field of study. It was really really really good! And the movie is interesting too. (All the speech majors got together and watched it earlier this week)

I've finished Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day but I still need to watch the movie to count it.

I've been trying really hard to think of a book I skipped for school (high school or college) and I don't think I ever have, I was kinda a dork snob and looked down on people who didn't read the books. I saw a few other people had similar questions but I never found answers. My brother is in high school so maybe I could read a book that he is assigned but I never was?

I think this was answered before somewhere but I can't remember..but basically what I said was that you could pick one that was required at other schools but not your own..so your brothers would work.

Kristen..this is kind of confusing..but we started it in this thread and then soon after found an easier way to do the adding up of points. So this thread is for general questions or posting updates of a particular book you just read. The other thread in this folder that says "REAL official challenge" is the "official one".

I just finished book 3 of the Wrinkle in Time series (I also read book 2) but I read book 1 before the challenge started. Only book 1 is listed on the website you gave, but all of the series has been banned or challenged at several schools due to L'Engle's promotion of Christian Universalism. Can I count it, or does it have to have the title on that list?

so i have a question about the challenge.... since there's been this talk of doing a summer challenge and such... when is the school year challenge ending? Are we just going to scrap it? If so, can I use the books I haven't read on the summer challenge?

Lynn, That's a good question. Jamie and I haven't made any definite decisions, but we might keep the challenge going and you'll be allowed to use any unread books for the school year and summer challenge. I'd feel bad scrapping it completely because some people don't want to do fall challenge, some people are almost done, and some people are just having fun. But we haven't set anything in stone. We'll send out a message with the plan later.

I personally love the idea of a summer challenge, it'll give me new motivation haha. Plus I have my own little mini challenge each summer, which is why I hate The Fountainhead so much, it took me a whole month to read and when you only have three months that's a lot of time to spend on one book. If I really liked it it wouldn't have been such a big deal but I resent it now as well as thinking it wasn't that great... it ruined my plans! lol
