If You Had Lost Your Entire Library, What Novels Would You Choose To Start Over Again?

Hmm, definitely interesting. I think I'd go for most of the books by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes, Michael Koryta's Lincoln Perry books, a couple Erica Spindler books, and definitely the Harry Potter books. Oh, and possibly Isabel's Daughter.
If I had to start my library from scratch I'd choose the entire Harry Potter series. I think I will always enjoy them.
Probably start with Narnia, The Lord of the Rings and then move onto Brandon Sanderson's books and The Wheel of Time.
If I lost all my books, first I'd cry a lot, I imagine, then I'd start by getting (in no particular order):- A bit of Douglas Adams - The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (I'd want the original radio series recordings too).
- My Favourite Janes Austens - Persuasion & Pride and Prejudice, though I'd probably just get a "Complete Works".
- Jane Eyre
- Ender's Game
- The Dark Is Rising Sequence
- Cranford
- The Wind in the Willows
- Howl's Moving Castle
- Anne of Green Gables
- Master and Commander 20 Volume Set
- My favourite Terry Pratchetts, especially Guards! Guards!, Men at Arms, Feet of Clay and Night Watch
- A couple of Nevil Shute's books - A Town Like Alice and Ruined City
- The Eagle Of The Ninth
- At least two John Wyndhams - The Chrysalids and The Day of the Triffids
Sorry, not so good at narrowing these things down - too many books I love, but these would be a good start.
Like so many others: definately the Harry Potter series. Next to that I'd really miss my Oscar Wilde and Murakami books. And Yann Martel's Life of Pi is also a must have.
Next to that I'd probaby get some new copies of Dutch/Belgian books I've enjoyed...
honestly I won't get anything I've already read , probably take an adventure with new stuff since I am one of those people who read something and maybe go back a couple of years later for a reread but that also depends of my mood .but if I had to choose I'd start with my old Jane Austin books and Stephen King ( I don't even know why I go back to SK's books , I know I'll probably get an unsatisfying ending but never learn I guess)
also some of the classics I feel at ease when having them on my shelf like Gone with the wind , a tale of two cities , Don Quixoto and possibly a hundred years of solitude , doesn't even have a point but I've read it 4 times already .

Nicky,
I have Martel's Life of PI on my bookshelf to be read. I've heard that's a wonderful novel.

It is something special indeed. One that really makes you think. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I have!
Richard Bach's books. I am still on search of many of his books but the books I have read, I fell in love with. Illusions is life changing book.
What a horrible thought - but then I'd have a lot more room!!! I'd probably start with my Stephen King collection.
Sharon,I just missed my first Stephen King novel a few weeks ago. I read Bag of Bones and I posted a review on my blog:

I was pleasantly surprised by this novel. Not what I expected from King.
Thanks to everyone else for posting on this topic. I thought it would be a fun topic to write about. Some interesting choices. I wanted to see what books are most dear to them.

I think I would be mildly traumatized...Then I would look for copies of Gone With the Wind, The World According to Garp, Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal and the entire Harry Potter series.
All of Nicolas Sparks books. He is my favorite author. I started reading him when his first book came out and wasn't popular and have stayed an avid reader since. I always can't wait for his next book to come out!!
Thanks for your responses, Lindsay and Kristina. I have found out what novels are near and dear to people's hearts.
Jonathan wrote: "Probably start with Narnia, The Lord of the Rings and then move onto Brandon Sanderson's books and The Wheel of Time."I think I'd get the Chronicles of Narnia, too.
All my Stephen King novels which would be hard to replace as some are first editions. All my John Saul novels and my collection of red bound classics which are getting harder to find too.
I MUST own these books. Always. And, I jealously guard my leather-bound copies and never allow anyone to borrow them.Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass
Dracula
The Raven
Then, for more grins and giggles, I would also seriously want to replace all five of my Douglas Adams books in the series The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
Hi, I'm new here but the question is wonderful! I'm mad for my books!!!! and if I'd lost my library.... well, I'd choose:"1Q84" and "Kafka on the shore" by Murakami and "The club Dumas" by Arturo Pérez-Reverte and "Drood" by Dan Simmons, and... how much can I take with me?:-))
Complete sets of Jane Austen, Thomas Hardy, & Charles Dickens to start off with & then my leather bound editions of the lliad & the odyssey. Someone said that first they would start crying...Im pretty sure I would do that too!

David Copperfield is my favorite novel. Good looking out for Charles Dickens. LOL!!

I saw a lot of replies for Austen....How could people ever forget Dickens? I needed to represent lol :) so now there's at least 3 Dickens fans here!
I'd have to say all the Harry Potter books, Here be Dragons, Big-Box Swindle: The True Cost of Mega-Retailers and the Fight for America's Independent Businesses, House of Echoes, Hiding from the Light, The Ghost Bride, The Little Bookstore of Big Stone Gap: A Memoir of Friendship, Community, and the Uncommon Pleasure of a Good Book, Long Hot Summoning, Time Was Soft There: A Paris Sojourn at Shakespeare & Co., The Winter of Our Disconnect, and Three Little Words
And I'm a great Dickens fan too, so I'd start with some of his. Then it gets difficult. I'd try to buy the longer, more complicated books, I think, in case I ran out of money...! I also like some of Thomas Hardy's. I love Jane Austen too but would probably forego hers because I know them so well.
I also like some of Alexander McCall Smith's books, in particular the one about the sausage dog. If you ever get the chance to listen to it being read by Hugh Laurie, it's a real treat.
