Chandana I've read the book twice now and I've been thinking.........If there was one thing we could change in the story, what would it be? I've got conflicted feelings about the ending, though. It's perfect, but still.....I wish there could've been more.
What do other fans say?

Julianna I'd add Rose in there somewhere. It's just not the same without her

Chandana Julianna wrote: "I'd add Rose in there somewhere. It's just not the same without her"

Our badass heroine

Whitney Haha, yes.

Chandana Here's another question: should Sydney end up with Adrian? I've heard from a couple people who say that they hope Richelle Mead adds a new hot guy to the mix 'cause their bored of Adrian.

Julianna No! Sydney needs a human, as bad as that sounds, it's true. I would hate Richelle Mead forever if she made Sydney give up her beliefs or be punished/re-educated because of Adrian.

message 7: by Celeste (last edited Jul 06, 2012 09:32PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Celeste I miss that badass side of dimitri...All he did was do those stupid experiments. I want to see him in action!!!!

I also a argee with juilanna, she had very good points that i thought of before, but didn't take to heart.

Chandana Well, he does fight. Just not as much as he did in VA.

♥ Alexia -Team Malec ♥ If i could change one thing.....No Re-education Centre. Freaks me out!

Julianna Alexia -Team Malec :) wrote: "If i could change one thing.....No Re-education Centre. Freaks me out!"

Those seem kind of strange and out of place. A bunch of intellectuals who possess these centers that do some unspeakable things that turn people into shadows of their former selves.

Chandana Well I wouldn't want to end up there.....but it's that FREAKY huh?

Julianna I've been thinking about what could be happening in there... maybe like, electro-shock therapy? Solitary confinement? Something(s) REALLY creepy and freaky.

But while they sort of don't make any sense, I guess it's just another testimonial to how much is demanded of Alchemists. They have to be smart, competent and careful, because they have a very far distance to fall.

Chandana Does anyone know the release date for the Indigo Spell?

S.L.J. Feb 2013.

Change one thing? I'd give Adrian super-powers. :P

Danielle No i actually really liked the ending because it really showed that when beliefs are drilled into you since you are you they are going to stay and the ending really showed that and i was glad it wasn't like kiss then poof! all beliefs gone and ohhh i love you adrian..i really would not have liked that because then it would be cheesey...I just wish that Rose was in there somewhere

Danielle Julianna wrote: "No! Sydney needs a human, as bad as that sounds, it's true. I would hate Richelle Mead forever if she made Sydney give up her beliefs or be punished/re-educated because of Adrian."

i like the idea that she could go with Adrian..it makes it all the more exciting and breath taking <3

Nancy Julianna wrote: "No! Sydney needs a human, as bad as that sounds, it's true. I would hate Richelle Mead forever if she made Sydney give up her beliefs or be punished/re-educated because of Adrian."

I am sorry but I disagree with you. Sydney and Adrian are very compatible. They understand each other a lot. In fact, no one else knows them better than each other. Sydney brings out the best in Adrian and he brings out her carefree nature; they relax around each other.

(view spoiler)

PS: I wouldn't want to change the ending. As usual, Richelle Mead rocks. I expected it the way it turned out. It will take a little time for Sydney to come around. At least, she didn't give him false hope like Rose did. I respect Sage for that. She'll have to quit the Alchemists beliefs first. In fact, I want her to quit being an Alchemist altogether. I don't like them. They are scary.

message 18: by Juliet (last edited Jul 08, 2012 10:59AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Juliet I definitely think Adrian and Sydney should be together. The ending with them was perfect. I guess I agree with the person who said she wished Rose would be in it. She will always be one of my favorite characters in the series. However, I think she will appear later in the series to complicate Adrian and Sydney's relationship. That would drive me crazy.
I also think that Sydney and the rest of them(Eddie, Jill,Angeline, Adrian, etc.) should visit court so we could see Lissa, Christian, ROSE. That would be pretty incredible.

Juliet Nancy wrote: "Julianna wrote: "No! Sydney needs a human, as bad as that sounds, it's true. I would hate Richelle Mead forever if she made Sydney give up her beliefs or be punished/re-educated because of Adrian."..."

I think the Alchemists are pretty cool, I just hate their whole belief system.

Nancy Juliet wrote: "I think the Alchemists are pretty cool, I just hate their whole belief system"

Good point well made. I agree!

Julianna Nancy wrote: "Julianna wrote: "No! Sydney needs a human, as bad as that sounds, it's true. I would hate Richelle Mead forever if she made Sydney give up her beliefs or be punished/re-educated because of Adrian."..."

So you want her to abandon everything she's believed in and worked for her entire life, and get thrown out of the only life and family she's every had, for Adrian. I can't see her doing that, and nor do I want her to.

Chandana Julianna wrote: "Nancy wrote: "Julianna wrote: "No! Sydney needs a human, as bad as that sounds, it's true. I would hate Richelle Mead forever if she made Sydney give up her beliefs or be punished/re-educated becau..."

I've got to agree with you both there. I mean the Team Adrian/Sydney thing gives a whole new twist to the story, but at the same time, there's human vs. vampire ideal. (forget about twilight.)

Darlene I would only add Christian in somewhere.

Juliet Jess wrote: "I wouldn't have Sydney push Adrain away when they kissed and she should enjoy it. Trust the heart, not what your told to trust"
I think that's the kind of idea she'll have by the end of the series, which will allow her Adrian to get together.

message 25: by Kit (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kit Kat Rose should come and visit them! Then we will really know whether or not Adrian is over her and he really likes Sydney. I wonder if he would get jealous again when he sees Dimitri and Rose together.

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

Sydney and Adrian!!!Sydney needs a human to completely leave her old self behind and accept her new role in life. I would change nothing in the book and I loved the ending!Poor Adrian. I think another guy will come into play but her heart belongs to Adrian.

message 27: by Vanessa (new) - added it

Vanessa I think Sydney and Adrian are great for each other! Sure it goes against her beliefs but shes already losing faith in the alchemist traditions. She already sees the moroi as friends and not vampires. I don't see the problem... as for changing the story.. i definately wouldnt have her push adrian away at the end. I think her walking away was good because it leaves anticipation for the next book but i would have let her walk away after they stopped kissing.

S.L.J. It's going to take alot for them to finally get together, but lets face it...it's going to happen eventually.

Vindicator What's the next book called?

I will be so pissed if the world decides to end;) Oops! Hope I didn't jinx it.....

Raphaella I don't think she should leave the alchemists, having to abandon her family (I wouldn't mind if it were just her douchey father, but there are her mother and sisters to consider, too, who she probably wouldn't be allowed to see anymore) and everything she knows isn't a good base for a relationship. They can't be extinguished, they are very necessary because humans in general are very stupid. Sydney should start a reformation after breaking out of a re-education center to fix their very flawed system. She absolutely can't just leave all her beliefs to be with Adrian in a finger snap, she's been indoctrinated since she was a child and breaking free from her preconception is a difficult and slow process, and she already made great progress.

Prerna I admit that its a great book. But if Rose was in it, it would have completely rocked. And also, Christian and his sarcasm, and Lissa and her Queenly air. ! would have been perfect.

Gabriel Laurent A lot of people are saying she wouldn't end up with Adrian due to her beliefs, but you should keep in mind that throughout the book she consistently challenges them. I mean, more than once she asks herself who are the real monsters (if I'm not mistaken, it was when she was comparing the moroi to the vampire hunters) and she even ends up magic towards the end of the book.

Of course, I would've been upset if she completely rejected her beliefs to be with Adrian (no matter how hot he is) since it would be out of character for her. I think she might end up dating someone else before she dates him (that vampire hunter guy whose name I always forget, I bet). And I have a feeling the re-education centers will play a bigger role towards the end of the series.

Krista Julianna wrote: "Nancy wrote: "Julianna wrote: "No! Sydney needs a human, as bad as that sounds, it's true. I would hate Richelle Mead forever if she made Sydney give up her beliefs or be punished/re-educated becau..."

I think you're missing the point, though. The Alchemysts, while they provide a service to the Moroi community, are a very close-minded society full of misguided prejudices and archaic ideals. And, it's obvious from how they handled Keith that they're inherently cruel, too. It's also clear that Sydney has as bad of a relationship with her father as Adrian has with his.

I think Mead is asking the reader to question whether it's better to follow ingrained ideals and principles, even if you know them to be wrong and unjust, or whether it's better to change your ideals and principles as you grow and experience new things. I'm hoping that Sydney's experiences in Palm Springs can start a sort of renaissance among the Alchemysts - that perhaps SHE can re-educate THEM. And, if not, she should be free to make the choice to follow her heart or those childhood ideals that were set upon her by people who don't understand how the world really works.

Obviously, it would have to be a gradual process, and for that reason, I too am glad that (view spoiler)

Saki i missed Adrian from VA,he feels different in bloodlines and obviously i miss rose and lissa :)

That would definitely spice things up. I bet that will happen in the series

I think fans like Rose more than Sydney......

S.L.J. Baylor wrote: "Why do people hate Rose???????????????"
