How many of the 1001 books have you read?
Sandi wrote: "I generally use the bookshelf of this group."Thanks I didn't notice the bookshelf much easier than searching through all the lists on the internet.
I've read 155 books on the list. I feel pretty good about that I hadn't realized that I've read so many.
I have read 63, but I have a couple sitting on my shelf to add to the list, which I'll hopefully get to this summer.
I finished my 100th book last night. Whew! I had read 34 when I initially started the list, and have been looking forward to 100 for a very long time. I can only think of a handful that I would not recommend to others, so the list has treated me very well so far.

I think that is an excellent idea! It is a lot of fun. Let us know when you put it up! I have my own called 1001everything.blogspot.com. Can't wait for yours!

I started with 49 I think on the 2010 list since it was easier than going through all 3 versions of the list, then was told about the bookshelf, which is easier. I've knocked through at least half a dozen or so more since then, but I only joined the group not long ago, so 60 maybe? I'll have to go back & count...
Diane wrote: "Thinking about creating a blog as I go through the 1001 book challenge. What does everyone think??"Good idea! I started one not long ago, though it is more of a general book blog rather than 1001-specific.
I've read (a pitiful) 25 off the list so far. I only heard of the 1001 challenge mid last year and I jumped on it as I love that kind of thing! I'm going for all three lists combined (and any more that they release).
It is still three lists. I am not certain yet, but it seems possible there will be another one next year, as it has been updated every two years.

I'm curious to see what they will cut and paste next. I think some people stick with one list, others maybe use all lists?
I've been using all of them, in part because of books I wanted to read already that have been removed.
Denae wrote: "I've been using all of them, in part because of books I wanted to read already that have been removed."Exactly. Same for books that I had already read.
Are the books on this book groups book shelf all three lists? I think it is because there are more than 1001 books on the list. I'm using that. If there is an update I'm guessing the group will add the updated books?
Carol wrote: "Are the books on this book groups book shelf all three lists? I think it is because there are more than 1001 books on the list. I'm using that. If there is an update I'm guessing the group will add the updated books?"Yes, the group uses books from all the combined lists. The new books on the updated lists have their own shelves in the group bookshelves (i.e. 2008-updates, 2010-updates).
If anyone notices any books missing from the group bookshelves, please let me know and I'll add them in. Once upon a time the group shelves were unlocked and some members took it upon themselves to delete books and/or add books that didn't belong (Twilight!!). I've tried to get everything re-sorted, but there still seem to be a few I've missed...and tracking them down is a little taxing. (Boy, I wish there was a search feature for group shelves!) Thanks for the help!
Ok, I officially combed through the 2006 list, and including the two that I am currently reading (1984 and Prayer for Owen Meany), I am at 26.Congrats, Amanda on 69 at age 16!
69 at 16? Well done Amanda. Consider yourself well-read already. There are plenty of folks who are 69 and have not read 16.
28 so far, i am currently on my 29th
i like the variation i am getting from the list,
i am exploring unknown land thanks to it
I am halfway through number 70 from all 3 lists & the bookshelf with a new bag of books from the library to go once I'm done this one.
I started in December 2010, and at first glance had read 28 previously. I'm now on my 50th, Cider with Rosie by Laurie Lee that sees me smiling like an idiot on the tube every morning - its so full of joy.I had a bit of a rocky patch between Love in the time of Cholera and Oliver Twist, but have fallen in love with Jeanette Winterson and Angela Carter recently which renewed my faith in the collaborators!
I am averaging about 4-5 books a month, so still have 20 odd years left! At least the list has helped me look forward to long plane journeys in a way I never did before! Its good to go up with one and come down with another. Also, being a member of readitswap it means my library keeps revolving, and whilst I only ever swap with specific list books, I can never really tell what is going to come my way when. Currently have 34 list books to read on the shelf, so I'll be occupied for a while! Such a great way to find favourite new authors.
I have the flags and bunting out! Join me in celebration. With Foucault's Pendulum I have just hit the 200 barrier!

I've read Edit: Upon making and combing through a Listology list, I discovered I'd read a few more than I thought I had.
I don't know how many of these books I've read -- a lot -- and generally they should be on the list. I've just read a new book that may deserve inclusion, Roland Merullo's Talk Funny Girl. I believe it is in the same class with Dickens's Hard Times and Christina Stead's Man Who Loved Children. Please look at my review. http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
I check them off on the lists of bests website which calculates a percentage so I am at approximately 125 on the 2006 list and 145 on the 2008 list. May switch to the bookshelf here to keep track. I have a print out of 50 titles per page and try to keep the percentage completed per page of 50 somewhate equal to my overall percentage completed which balances time periods better although I am lately on an 18th and 19th century kick throwing that strategy out of whack. It does help for balance. It may be helpful to look at percentages of decades during the 20th and 21st centuries as there are alot of books in those time periods, 20th especially.
Out of the 1924 books on the combined lists, apparently I've read 16. And I'm under 18, so that's not too bad. :)
Wow I´m only on 14 and working on 3 books. I´m from Iceland so I didn´t read these books in high school.
I'm at 74 I think, I'm not sure anymore, LOL. I finally went back & skimmed the Rushdie titles because I couldn't remember which one of his others I'd read before Verses. Turns out it was The Enchantress of Florence. That one reads like a WAY over the top fairy tale. Odd, but it makes a BIT more sense than Verses did to me.
I haven't yet counted how many I've read, but these are some that I have read:Pippi Longstocking
The Little Prince
The Water Babies
The Catcher in the Rye
The Time Machine
The Hobbit
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
Around the World in 80 Days
I don't remember most of the books on the list, and I haven't bought the book yet, so I may have read more. Anyway, has A Christmas Carol ever appeared on the list?
Tayyab/Killer of Mockingbirds/Eggman Walrus Taxman wrote: "Anyway, has A Christmas Carol ever appeared on the list? "Yes it's on the list. You can use this group's bookshelf to access the list, and easily add the ones you've read to your own shelf while you browse the group's shelf.

That's great! Not so bad nothing! You are doing well. :)
