David Sven (gorro) | 1582 comments Finished Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. I think I've come a bit late to the party on this one, but I understand why people like it.
My Review http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/....

Think I'll start Daemon, by Daniel Suarez before the August pick comes out.

message 155: by Ctgt (new)

Ctgt | 329 comments Started A Dance with Dragons a couple of days ago, got about 50 pages in and realized I couldn't remember what the heck was going on. So, I'm going back to A Storm of Swords to refresh my feeble mind.

Kim | 477 comments Currently reading Under Heaven and Geekomancy.

message 157: by Felina (new)

Felina I just started The Shadow of the Wind which I'm really enjoying. The atmosphere is out of control.

Jenny (Reading Envy) (readingenvy) | 2898 comments Halfway through His Majesty's Dragon because I'm going to a reading with her, Jeff Vandermeer, and Will Hindmarch on Wednesday. I've had it downloaded to my iPad for a long time, but thought I wouldn't like it. Turns out that not every dragon book is bad!

Or I have only read the wrong dragon books. Regardless, I'm enjoying this one quite a bit.

I've also been listening to an audiobook of Counter-Clock World by Philip K. Dick, which has had me giggling hysterically because of all the evil and powerful librarians.

All I have to do is attend, but thank you! I'll post pictures I hope.

Kirsten Bailey (klbailey) | 82 comments I've just started the first part of A Storm of Swords. Hoping to get finished before the next book club book is announced - not sure if that will happen though.

message 162: by David(LA,CA) (new)

David(LA,CA) (davidscharf) | 327 comments Finished up with Geekomancy the other day and really enjoyed it. Continuing my way through the X-Wing series with Star Wars: X-Wing: Isard's Revenge. Should finish just in time to start the August book.

message 163: by Kevin (last edited Jul 24, 2012 09:27AM) (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) | 1081 comments I just bought and started Best Served Cold, which I know a lot of people love Joe Abercrombie. So good so far for the book.

message 164: by Ewan (new)

Ewan (ewanreads) | 94 comments I'm finishing up:
Snow CrashSnow Crash ebook
The Heroes in audiobook
Lord of the Flies in paperback

After i've polished at least 2 of them I'll start Kill Decision in ebook and The Blind Watchmaker on audible.

Great suggestions in here though, it might completely derail my schedule....

message 165: by Warren (new)

Warren | 1556 comments The Coldest war by Ian Tregillis is out in hard copy.
So if you want to read your libraries copy (while your still young)
you might want to get on the waiting list now.

message 166: by Sandi (new)

Sandi (sandikal) | 1212 comments Finished Leviathan Wakes last night and started Geekomancy this morning. Geekomancy is a really fun read so far.

I'm almost done listening to Shadow of Night, the sequel to A Discovery of Witches. It's not quite as good as the first book, but it's still a compelling book. I'm not sure what I'll listen to next.

message 167: by Tamahome (last edited Jul 24, 2012 06:42PM) (new)

Pretty cover?

I have an audiobook version if anyone wants a copy to review (ETA meaning I'd send it to you, hard copy, not make a copy for you). :)

Sandi (sandikal) | 1212 comments Tamahome wrote: "Deborah Harkness's Shadow of Night is #1 on the best seller list. Explain."

Like A Discovery of Witches, it's a paranormal romance with brains. This time, it's historical romance too. I don't know if you'd like it though. It's very girly.

message 170: by Alfredo (new)

Alfredo | 62 comments I finished and loved Kill Decision, now I am reading Sleeper's Run, the award winning thriller set in two of the places I know best in the world (South Florida and Caracas).

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King - JRR Tolkien
Interview with the Vampire - Anne Rice.

message 175: by Sayak (new)

Sayak | 1 comments July has been a bit of a Chris Wooding marathon for me. First reading the The Weavers of Saramyr and then the tales of the Ketty Jay series: Retribution Falls,The Black Lung Captain, The Iron Jackal. I also started reading Theft of Swords, but it is on the back burner along with all of Douglas Adams works(i need more time to do justice to the books).

message 176: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (einahpets_reads) This month, I've read Leviathan Wakes with the book club and Caliban's War (which I enjoyed even more than LW). These two made me realize that I have been reading far too little Laser lately.

I'm now reading Gone Girl, which is definitely not sci-fi/fantasy, and it is definitely making me tell my husband again and again how much I love and adore him -- I think it might be creeping him out. But I definitely have momentum going with the story now (stayed up past my bedtime last night reading), so I might as well finish it.

I am also trying to finish up The Lies of Locke Lamora on audiobook. I was hoping it'd be more my thing than it has been. It might just be that I am still pretty new to the audiobook thing.

Next, I am planning on rereading The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms so that I can get to the rest of the series next month. :)

message 177: by Tamahome (new)

Tamahome | 7215 comments Taking a shot at Cloud Atlas again since I saw the movie trailer. I finished the first archaic chapter!

message 184: by Karen (new)

Karen | 29 comments After a slow start with the first book in the series (which had more foreshadowing than the entire series run of Lost) and much to my surprise, I have been completely sucked in to the Kushiel's Dart universe and am about to start the second trilogy as soon as that inconsiderate person returns the only copy to my library.

message 185: by Kate (new)

Kate O'Hanlon (kateohanlon) | 778 comments I've been waiting for The Privilege of the Sword to come out on audible since I finished Swordspoint. It finally dropped this week and it's GREAT. I was a little sceptical of Felicia Day voicing Katherine, not that I don't love Felicia, but it's not how I imagined Katherine. She's won me over though.

I'm also going The Night Circus a go. Why are people so into circus fiction? I will figure this out.

message 186: by David Sven (new)

David Sven (gorro) | 1582 comments Just finished Freedom TM by Daniel Suarez. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
My review http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/....

I'm looking forward to reading his new book Kill Decision which I'm waiting delivery on after winning the give away (no I'm not bragging still . . again)

Will now get stuck into the August pick Assassin's Apprentice.

message 193: by Brandon (new)

Brandon | 178 comments I just reread Gardens of the Moon which made more sense the second time through. I think some if it is just the familiarity with Erickson's writing style.

Tomorrow I start Whispers Under Ground until then I am rereading Deadhouse Gates.

message 194: by Sandi (new)

Sandi (sandikal) | 1212 comments I'm about 1/2 way through the audiobook of Expedition to the Mountains of the Moon by Mark Hodder.

On my Nook, I'm reading Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake. I like ghost stories, and this is a pretty good one.

message 195: by J.R. (new)

J.R. (hyper10n) | 10 comments Finally finishing up Leviathan Wakes and The Hobbit. Also reading the new Artemis Fowl. (been reading it since i was a kid and have always had a soft spot for the series.)

message 196: by Alterjess (new)

Alterjess | 319 comments Holy crap, The Coldest War was fantastic!! I'm surprised there isn't a separate thread for it, to be honest. Or is there an old one from when it was released in the UK and in audio?

I'm on kind of a David Mitchell kick now since watching the Cloud Atlas trailer, so I think my next book is going to be The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet.

Jenny (Reading Envy) (readingenvy) | 2898 comments Alterjess wrote: "

I'm not trying to talk you out of it, but I found it the hardest of Mitchell's books to read. Unless you're already a fan of historical fiction, I might suggest reading Ghostwritten or number9dream or Black Swan Green instead.

message 198: by Alterjess (new)

Alterjess | 319 comments I've already read Ghostwritten, and I can't find my copy of Number 9 Dream. So Jacob de Zoet it is :)

Had never heard of the Coldest War before. It sounds really interesting from the blurb and reviews. I've put the first book in the series on my to read list.

David Sven (gorro) | 1582 comments Inspired by the new trailer I'm making Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell my lunch time reading.

You can catch the trailer on the book's Goodreads page too.
