Well I assumed that as the 'Look inside' bit mentions he has a wife, a child wouldn't really come as too much of a surprise (Admittedly most fantasy and historical novels make some token gesture towards herbal contraception because pregnancy and the whole stopping for Parturition, breast feeding etc can seriously screw up your plot, but frankly the only reliable method in this sort of period was chronic malnutrition, with breast feeding a poor second.)
Damn it, I've come over all didactic again haven't I. It's not a good sign when the explanation bit in brackets is twice the length of the bit you're explaining. I did that when someone commented about the money Rothred finds on the men hired to kill him. I don't think she expected an essay on the way mercenaries and suchlike were paid in the ancient and medieval world ;-(

Memo to self, don't waste time on the blurb ;-)

'Flames of the City' is back from the Editor. This means it needs me to work through it, so that's Christmas sorted.
It's set in the same place and time as the two tales about Benor. Benor himself isn't involved but the readers will recognise other characters

LOL
I must admit that I'm looking forward to getting into it. I've been working on a SF book but fancy getting back into the 'real' world

I'm now working through them and I'm hoping that we're almost at the final proof reading

Buy now to avoid disappointment, there are only so many electrons left out there, the way they're producing e-books, they'll soon all be gone

(Not quacking - that's Geoff!)"
Wait until you get deeper into 'the book' and you'll see what I've done to Patti's ego.

Just in case Patti is reading, she's not mentioned in The Flames of the City but in another project which is still some way down the track.
Whilst I'd love her to buy and read my books, I'd hate her to buy one thinking that she's mentioned.
Obviously she's the inspiration of all we writers here say or do but that is taken as read

'Learning a hard trade.'
Another 'stand alone' tale

the girl or the pffft!
Mike says it will be next month before he can make a start
(I rather jumped the queue with the last one)
I'm lucky, he regards fantasy as a pleasant break from doing phd stuff for people.

(GIRL! Pffft!)"
Someone who likes my stuff can be any age they want

Standing just over 6ft tall I tend to be able to reach. Indeed it causes problems in our house as I put things at 'eye level' and the rest of the family claim they're lost

never get tight when climbing a ladder

There are some things I have managed to remain entirely ignorant of
(like punctuation, spelling and grammar)

He snapped awake, to see a girl of perhaps fourteen standing by the cart. He stood up and joined her at the cart. He produced the packets of pins and tried desperately to remember the price Decan had mentioned. He sold her a book of pins for fifty three dregs, and then they were joined by two other girls, one of whom had obviously just done her hair and was wearing a dress that was still unfinished. It dawned on him that the delightful complications that he had discovered when helping Urlan maidens fit their mail shirts were as nothing to helping a village girl get her bodice looking just right. He heroically discussed the merits of various thickness of ribbon, attempted to help facilitate the discussion as to which colour would ornament a somewhat low cut neckline best, and was probably just about holding his own when Decan arrived back carrying another two tankards.
In the presence of Decan the girls merely purchased and left. Trulor displayed his takings and Decan grinned and passed him a tankard.
“There was a time I could sell more with my shirt off as well lad, but those days have long gone.”
He laughed at Trulor’s expression. “Don’t worry about it. Any new man round here will be checked over, observed carefully and even flirted with. Doubtless their mothers were keeping an eye out and decency would have been observed. A girl has to look to her future remember.”

Thought you must be - someone sorted out the adventuress in the Announcements thread!

Exactly, I'd never dream of smuggling links to books or blog posts into normal conversations!

They're ever so yesterday afternoon.
Nearly as bad as exclamation marks!

When do you have 'normal' conversations?
Oops. I seem to have eaten about ten peppermint creams.
I mean eleven.

I'm partial to the odd exclamation mark myself. Otherwise, how would you know I was exclaiming? I get edgy bordering on annoyed though, when they appear in multiples!!!

Was twelve."
My late mother was very partial to dark chocolate peppermint creams
I always used to keep an eye open of new and different types
