Hello all my fellow lovers of the past! My name is Michael. Pleasure to meet all of you.

I guess I should tell a bit about myself here. I am a ripe 22 years of age living in southern California at the moment. I just graduated from the lovely San Diego State University with a degree in (what else) History.

In around one month, I will be going to the lovely country of Thailand to teach English to kids. Needless to say, I am incredibly excited (as well as nervous). I am also planning to attend graduate school next fall and am currently undergoing the arduous process some call "applying."

Also, I am a pretty big fantasy nut. Don't look at me like that! I was raised on Star Wars and later Lord of the Rings. I am currently infatuated with A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones) and love discussing crazy theories. Also, I just started watching Dr. Who and am hooked.

I have been entranced with history for as long as I can remember. Although I find it difficult to narrow down my specific preferences, my favorite areas are ancient history (Rome in particular), military history, and American history. The most recent book I've read is The Poison King by Adrienne Mayor and absolutely loved it.

Hello everyone! I'm not sure if I said Hi already, but if I did, I guess I'm doing it again!

My name is Marc, I currently live in Colorado. I'm in my late 40's (ugh!). I have a bachelors in physics (that and 2 bucks will buy you a small coffee), but currently in software. I've worked in several industries, telecom, credit, health, dotcom/dotbomb, defense, and now consulting. My work has taken me all over the US, plus trips to India, China, Sweden, Spain, plus layovers and sidetrips to Germany, England, Portugal, Italy, and United Arab Emirates.

But anyhoo, I love reading nonfiction/history, art, basically all the things I missed when I had my head down in physics text's! I am hoping I can get to visit the museums and sites I've been reading about!

In addition to reading, I greatly enjoy hiking, travel, movies, eating good food, coffee, music, attending concerts, ranging from classic rock/R&B, metal, alternative, classical, just whatever makes my feet move!

Hi everyone! I'm Susan and live in Baltimore, MD. I have always been interested in history, though currently am more interested in a few specific areas: the American Revolution period ("founding fathers", etc.), 20th century (particularly Cold War), Irish and Russian history. I know, quite an odd assortment, but there you go! My background is in public health, so I particularly like histories related to disease, health and medicine.

I joined the group hoping to read more history, but between a challenging job situation this year and a very specific reading challenge with another GR group, I've been hard-pressed to participate in the discussions here. I am very much looking forward to The Metaphysical Club, which seems to be slated for April!

Thanks. I've been on GR for a while and belong to other groups that have different rules, that's all. In fact, members of one group asked people NOT to use the cover link or to be sure to mention the name of the book because the cover link doesn't work on a lot of phones or other devices that people use. Maybe someone has another suggestion, but it is my understanding that you can't link to the pictures with a phone, although you can click on the text link successfully. At least that is what others have told me.
