Thank you so much on the tutorial on adding book cover and author links. I'm April, by the way, and really happy to be in the group.
Welcome officially April. I’m glad you could join us.Although you may have mastered book postings, please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo (when available) and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.
This is how a book you might mention should look:

Hi April, welcome to the group.
Apart from all the fascinating discussions on history we also have quite a few fine threads on music - all kinds from all places.
Come and take a look/listen if you like.
Best,
André

Hello, friends--My name's Scott, a resident of western PA, middle-aged Dad of 2 boys, a clergyman, and a complete nerd. I love many styles of reading, including biographies/autobiographies, history, historical fiction, classics, theology, sci-fi, fantasy, mysteries, westerns, and it goes on from there. I'm a big gamer as well. I'm part of a couple of other book clubs on Goodreads, but then as I was browsing I found you folks, and I was very pleased to see there was some great discussion going on around history. Looking forward to taking part in the discussions. Have a great weekend, everyone!
Edit: just figured out your preferred format for the "add book/author" feature, so I'm ready to go. Looking forward to jumping in soon!

Loved your introduction, Scott.....we are all "reading nerds", I think. Please take some time to browse the many threads and jump right in. Some good book recommendations/discussion are to be found here. And most of all.....enjoy!
Chris: Well-met! Glad to meet a fellow newcomer. I haven't launched into my 1st book with this group, yet, but I've looked at a sampling of the discussions on the fora. Great, substantial stuff. I think we're going to enjoy ourselves famously!

Welcome Chris to the place to be for all things history. Please take some time to browse the many topics and get involved in the book recommendations/discussions. We are soon beginning a group read on Thomas Jefferson on November 19th which might be of interest to you....and the author will be joining us for questions and answers. It will be very exciting. The book is noted below.

You might want to re-visit the "more information" topic to assist you in book citations. It is found at:http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/2...
You can practice the citations there.
Pam wrote: "For some reason it shows some html is ok and will not let me change that . So when i try to do book or author it will not show picture it will only let me do one or the other . What am i doing wrong."Pam, from your statement I believe you need to do the book and then go back and do the author, two times if there is a photo. The (preview) tab below will show a picture.
Hello my name is Shawn Borup. I am from Yakima, WA. I have a BA in History and an endorsement in Special Education. I teach at A. C. Davis High School home of the Pirates. I love history and love to read about it.
Pam wrote: "For some reason it shows some html is ok and will not let me change that . So when i try to do book or author it will not show picture it will only let me do one or the other . What am i doing wrong."For the book itself, just show the cover by selecting the radio button. For the author, select his/her photo as well. Then, duplicate the author link, but this time choose the link. So, once for the book (cover) and twice for the author (photo, then link). Like so...

Hi Shawn,
welcome to the group!
For this club as you get started please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment.
It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.
When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link after all of the text of your post at the bottom of the post. Placement at the bottom of the post calls the reader's attention to the book and/or author and increases the readability of your post.

Glad you joined us, Shawn. Lots to see here for the history lover and we look forward to your participation.
Pam you are almost there but you have two bookcovers and four parts.
First the bookcover which you have, then the author's photo should be second and the author's name which is called the author's link is third.
Why don't you go to the Mechanics of the Board thread and practice there. The assisting mods gave you the links.

Hello all. My name is Jacqueline. I am a thirty-something married mother of four girls, aged 14 to 6. I am currently attending school for Secondary Education in History and Social Studies (middle and high school teacher). I live on five acres in the middle of nowhere in Florida with my family and a host of pets. I have never been good at talking about myself. I hope that is enough of an "about me".
Christopher wrote: "Welcome Jacqueline, glad to have you with us! Going to school with 4 kids must be quite a feat!"Thank you =) It is. My husband helps out bunches so that makes it better. Going to school for something you love (history) also makes it a bit easier.
