Hello Everyone,I am so happy to be part of this group. I love to read and have been doing so basically for all my life. It is in my opinion one of life's greatest pleasures. As far as History goes, I absolutely love French Revolution and Tudor History, The Victorian Era, US History with a concentration in Colonial and anything Queen Elizabeth I. Most recently I have become very interested in The Gilded Age and would appreciate any recommendations on the subject from fellow enthusiasts.

Hello Everyone,My name is Edith. I live in New York City (Brooklyn). I am 32 and work in the Nonprofit sector with a focus on international development policy and advocacy as well as CSR. I love mixing my travels with work. I rarely travel abroad for just pleasure, it is almost always work related. I know, need to lighten up and let loose.....LOL!!! I love what I do! Was in West Africa for two years until November of last year. Working on various policy based projects, advocacy and initiatives, focusing on microfinance, maternal and infant health and Breast Cancer.
Anyway, my undergrad is in Business Administration and my grad is in Policy Analysis and Management. Looking to maybe pick up another masters focusing on development. We shall see!
When I find the right book, I can read it cover to cover nonstop. The most memorable for me was Forrest Gump by Winston Groom, when I was a teenager. I can't or don't bother watching a book based movie before reading the book itself.
Looking forward to bein a member of this book club and expanding my understanding of particular figures and occurances that have impacted the world we live in today.
HiI am Siby, 29 yrs old, and I have been a member of this group for a few months now but I completely missed introducing myself till now :). I work with the Pharma industry as a consultant for their IT systems. I have loved reading since childhood, although my taste has shifted to non-fiction and history over the last 3 years. I am hoping to participate more actively in this group now that I have discovered it and see the many interesting books that are discussed here. My only challenge is that I love to read books on science and mathematics and other non-fiction as well and I like finishing a book before picking up another, so I get around to History only once every other book. The last book on history that I read was "1776" by McCullough.

Hi, my name is Carl. I'm 31 and currently teach English in South Korea.
I have a Master's Degree from Marshall University in History. I've also studied abroad in Japan so my main historical interests lie in Asia. However, I'm also quite fond of Soviet-era Russian history but I've been trying to branch out after visiting parts of Southeast Asia (Cambodia and Vietnam) over the past year. I try to balance my reading between fiction and history nowadays and I've been having a hard time keeping up with what's going on this group. However, I'm definitely interested in staying up on what books are being read here.

Welcome Abbas, Angela, and Carl, glad to have you all in the group! There are many discussion threads covering a wide range of topics. We hope you participate in the discussions and recommendations.
Ben I think the best thing to do is browse the threads to get a sense of topics and books that are covered that stimulate your interest. On the club's home page is also a listing of current and upcoming group reads. There are usually a few going on at once and have weekly schedules. You can always join one in progress if the book interests you. Notices are sent out as books for group reads are boted on and scheduled, and you can always jump into any of those. There really is no one way to get started. Let your interests be your guide. Hope that helps.
Thanks Alisa, I'm currently following an old thread on The Killer Angels and reading the discussions that were posted after each of the chapter reads. Am enjoying the posts that were made by the moderators to gain more insight into the chapters!
