I actually never pictured Sebastian as attractive...I'm not really drawn to the dark/evil boys. Particularly Sebastian...His personality and goals make him hideous in my opinion.

I think it's ironic how none of them actually seem capable of dying. Jace--dies twice
Sebastian--Dies once.
I miss the books that when the bad guy died, he stayed dead. (Jace can't die anymore. It's Clary's turn to have some life-threatening whatever happen.)
And I hate who they casted Jace as. Jaime Bower? I mean no. NOnononononononono. Just....no.

I totally agree with you one the Jamie Bower thing. That's just disheartening.
I like books where, when somebody dies, they say dead. If authors keep bringing their characters back from something that is supposed to be eternal (ie. DEATH), every death after that looses its significance, meaning and weight.

I didn't like Sebastian at the end of the book. I do feel pity for him because that is what Clare wanted her readers to feel during the book until the end when he almost rapes Clary. I find it frightening that so many people love Sebastian because he is "hot" and totally disregard the fact that he almost raped his own sister. Being raped or sexually assaulted is not something that can be disregarded or made light of. It has the ability to ruin someones life. I think Clare put it in the book to shock us into realizing just how evil and deceitful Sebastian really is, not to make us say oh well he's hot so it's ok. I don't think it is wrong to like Sebastian as a character, he is very intriguing, this is just directed toward the very few people who have disregarded the rape and incest as being unimportant.

I don't think Sebastian really wanted to sabotage himself. But yeah. For some strange reason I still like him. And yes, he's evil. And most likely psychotic. Please no one tell me that "what would you do if he was a real person killing people?" He's not! Don't judge people for liking Sebastian. Cassandra Clare wouldn't have written him the way she did if she didn't expect people to like him.
Shadowhunter Girl wrote: "Well, Valentine didn't have demon blood in him and he was still screwed up. Sebastian would still probably share a similar perspective on the Clave and everything else since he was raised by Valent..."I doubt that. Jace was raised by Valentine for most of his life, but he completely disagreed with most of his views and was even willing to kill him at some point.
Sebastian, however, was completely obedient to Valentine, and even got whipped by him, because of his obedience. That's the one thing I actually feel bad for Sebastian for.
Shadowhunter Girl wrote: "I actually never pictured Sebastian as attractive...I'm not really drawn to the dark/evil boys. Particularly Sebastian...His personality and goals make him hideous in my opinion."Isn't he described as attractive though? Even Clary thinks it at some point, in City of Glass, and City of Lost Souls. Not that she's attracted to him. But that she recognized that he was attractive.
Erin wrote: "The name Sebastian always just reminds me of The Little Mermaid so when I hear it I automatically imagine a bright red lobster. :)"Hahahaha..... Now you make me think of that darn-well French red lobster character when I read about Sebastian
Jenny wrote: "I doubt that. Jace was raised by Valentine for most of his life, but he completely disagreed with most of his views and was even willing to kill him at some point."There is a bit typo there. Jace was raised by Valentine until he was 10, then he was sent to the Lightwoods for he was genuinely kind, which didn't match Valentine's expectation of him. Jace that Valentine has always wanted should be more about evil, but less than Sebastian's evil-like.
Jace wanted to kill Valentine for who he was, for all the killing Valentine's has made, but Jace could never do it. As evil as Valentine can be, Jace thought of him as a father.
Sebastian is indeed evil, but he is also an attractive young man. You are not wrong about that.

But it's still half his life isn't it? He's 18/19 as far as I know.
Jace was going to kill Valentine at the end of City of Glass, but Valentine killed him instead. And you can also see there, that Valentine loved Jace, when he cries.
Jenny wrote: "Jace was going to kill Valentine at the end of City of Glass, but Valentine killed him instead. And you can also see there, that Valentine loved Jace, when he cries. "Quoted:
She saw Valentine sink to the ground and pull Jace onto his lap as if Jace were still very small and could be easily held. He drew him close and rocked him, and he lowered his face and pressed it against Jace’s shoulder, and Clary thought for a moment that he might even have been crying, but when he lifted his head,
Valentine’s eyes were dry.
--------------------------
Maybe Valentine was sad, for his creation has gone. But not without any use. Valentine used Jace's blood as part of ritual. Poured it into the cup.
Thank you Nurlely for using real proof! You can like Sebastian for whatever reason you want, but just make sure that your claim is right in the end.
He's an incestuous creeper.
Also, I think he gives off a bit of a "gay vibe", but maybe that's just my imagination (Jace X Sebastian shipping, anyone?).

On second thought, maybe Sebastian and Jace would go better together than Clary and Jace. They're both arrogant and cool with incest (in Jace's case, perceived incest as opposed to Sebastian's real incest).

Then again, most of the YA paranormal romance male protagonists are kind of sucky.

*SPOILER*I liked it when Sebastian came into the scene. Partly because he was VERY helpful when Clary was in need of something which Jace refused to give, and also because Sebastian was making Jace jealous.
But then things changed.
The part that i hated the most was when he was trying to molester Clary..........i mean *EWWWWWW*!!!!!

I find your use of logic quite interesting. There are accounts of how Napoleon slept with his sister Pauline as well. In fact, I think you could say that a good portion of monarchs practiced incest for a while. Perhaps he's royal?

As much as I hate Sebastian(and believe me...I HATE SEBASTIAN WITH A BURNING PASSION!!!) I kind of want him to turn out to not be an asshole like Valentine. If he doenst turn out to not suck a whole heep of ass, than may he burn in darkest, deepest, most fiery pit of hell!!! So for his sake, he better not suck.

And besides, Jace didn't really know how screwed up his father was since he thought he saw him die when he was young. But it still pisses me off that Valentine killed Jace's bird. Makes me want to cry every time. :(

I know, right? I'd like him as Sebastian, and no more with this Alex Pettyfer/Sebastian crap. I mean, come on guys, enough is enough. He wasn't interested in Jace's part, and I doubt he'd want to be his (sort of) brother.
Daisy97 wrote: "Gabby wrote: "Daisy97 wrote: "He's gross. Btw I know who might be a good Sebastian! Look up Leebo Freeman! He even has white/silver hair."Whoa, he's actually pretty hot..in his own way :)"
I kno..."
Leebo Freeman, I think, is a perfect Sebastian! He's got the whole myserious and kinda untrustworthy appearance Sebastian has, plus even his photos exudes the confidence Sebastian does. And as for the Alex Pettyfer stuff, I'm just mad he turned the role down. They picked someone whose arms are as small as Lily's.And as I recall, Jace was supposed to be muscular...I'm just disappointed. I had originally expected a better cast. Oh well. But if they pick someone very wrong for Will for TID, that is where I draw the line. That.can't.happen. I hope.
And I just have to add, that I kinda imagined Jace alone the lines of Kip Pardue when he was younger. Like this: http://www.google.com/imgres?q=kip+pa...and this: http://www.google.com/imgres?q=kip+pa...
but that's just me.
And there is not one person I can think of that can portray Will's incredible looks other than Gregory: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=h...
nonononononon I take that back. there is ONE other person I can see playing him and it's Alex Evans. OH. MY GOSH. perfection. : http://www.google.com/imgres?q=alex+e...Google better pics of him. He even has the very blue eyes.
Before being a complete and utter creep by kissing Clary and forcing himself on her and saying "You are mine, you belong to me" etc etc, I thought he was becoming nice and civil and normal, but let's face it. He is a bit of a creep.Hope I didn't insult anyone who does like him :/
Aneeqa wrote: "Sebastian's awesome,I simply loved him! He is very different from the good guys as well as the other bad guys, and he stands out. He is a badass evil dude. And the thing bou liking his own sister? ..."While I was uncomfortable about Jace and Clary being siblings at least it was consensual. I didn't like it and I was happy when we found out that they weren't siblings because I didn't like the whole potential incest thing. In regards to Sebastian, you may be able to disregard the fact that they are siblings but it is in no way consensual. That is like saying incestual rape is ok because something that turned out not to be incest happened in an earlier story. And that is like saying rape and incest have happened before so when it happens today it doesn't matter. I am not saying that you can't like Sebastian but I am saying that I think it is BS that you think it can just be ignored. It is offensive to people like me who have been raped. There is a difference between the two situations and that difference was Clary's consent. I don't want to hurt your feelings or make you feel bad. But I do want you to try to put yourself in Clary's position and how horrible it must have been for her and the millions of other women who have been subjected to rape. I know she is a fictional character but I am a real person who has been through something similar and I think what you said was naive and hurtful. I hope you never have to go through what I and a lot of other women have gone through. The current statistics are 1 in every 4 women have been raped. That is a lot of women. A lot of women whose horrifying experiences you just belittled. That's what I got from your comment anyway.
Also, what I said above goes for everyone who said the rape and incest was unimportant because he is hot. I don't care if you like Sebastian because I agree that he is intriguing as a character. I do care though if you think that the abuse of women is unimportant and I find it rather frightening that anyone could feel that way and I will never understand it. I don't want to make people feel bad but I do think that it is something that should be thought about. I just wanted to make that clear.
You can't really compare Jace and Clary to Clary and Sebastian...And actually, yes, I did disapprove. It was making me nauseous so I actually had to go to the last book and insure that they weren't related before I could continue reading the series. And besides, Jace and Clary loved each other whereas Sebastian wanted to force himself on her. That is a big difference. I don't know how people couldn't care about the whole Sebastian-wanting-Clary thing. That part was unnecessary and just plain sick. I had originally thought Clare had some limit when it came to appropriate relationships after Clary and Jace and being possible siblings, but obviously not. She could still have had Sebastian possessive of Clary, but not in that way. I don't think it made him more intruiging, I think it made him more gross to read about. I barely finished the book because of it and I had to skip other parts, too.
Bear in mind, I'm not trying to hurt feelings, but I just seriously have no idea how anyone could like Sebastian.
As a character, I hate him. I give him no pity and I don't feel sorry for him. I'm sorry that his wacko of a father injected him and mutated his blood, but for him, as a person doesn't deserve it. I just want him out of the picture. Sometimes I can be lenient with bad guys, but this is just out of my stratosphere of normal. But that's just me.
And for a person to be liked just for his looks...I definitely don't understand. I think guys who are conceited are unattractive which is what I thought of Jace. He irritated me at first. But Sebastrian is much further on my dislike meter than Jace was. And now I love Jace. I don't think a person can really justify wrongdoing or regard it as any less just because the person may be hot.
