Taylor | 0 comments Woke up at 6:30. Went back to bed. Woke up at 7:15. Took a shower. Went back to bed. Woke up at 10. Crawled out of bed. Cleaned my room. Practiced the piano. Wrote a little. Listened to Hey Marseilles. Took a nap. (Lots of sleeping today.) Went to work. Came home. Did chores. Here I am.

Sam~~ we cannot see the moon, and yet the waves still rise~~ | 3061 comments i'm still stuck on the "woke up at 6:30" part of that. -_-

Btw, I won't be able to respond to your PM right away. This girl I know texted me and in our conversation, she said she wished she could flirt with a guy, so I offered to be her guinea pig. XD

"I wanna be so close to you that even Moses can't part us." XD

"Are you going to kiss me or do I have to lie to my diary?"

(Not mine. I looked up funny pickup lines and came up with some pretty funny ones."

Taylor | 0 comments Love the first. I've heard the second before. Here are some Mormon ones you'll understand if you know the culture.

What's your favorite temple? Because you're mine.

You remind me of the fruit in Lehi's dream. Precious above all others.

My Liahona pointed to you.

Haven't we met before... like in the pre-existence?

Can I borrow your phone? I told my mom that I'd call her when I found the girl of my dreams.

I may need a map, because I'm lost in your eyes.

You're beatiful in Gods eyes, and mine too.

Do you believe in love at first sight, or do I need to walk by again?

Did it hurt? [Did what hurt?:] When you fell from heaven?

For a minute there I thought I had died and gone to heaven, but now I realize that I am very much alive, and that heaven has been brought to me.

I don't think you're worthy to take me to the temple. [Why?:] Because you're smokin'!

Dearest Darling... after much deliberation, and signficant consideration, I have half the inclination to make you my relation. So if you'll meet me at the station, with the bishop's cooperation, we will form a combination that will increase the population.

Last night I was looking at the stars, and for every one I saw I thought of something that I love about you... but soon I ran out of stars.

I knew I'd feel the Spirit at EFY, but I didn't think I'd see an angel!

What's a Celestial boy/girl doing in a Telestial place like this?

What time is it? Because I want to forever remember the moment I met you.

Are you a Gadianton Robber [No:] Well, you stole my heart.

Can I see your tag? Oh, I thought so... Made In Heaven.

And MY personal favorites:

Is your name Virtue? Because you garnish my thoughts unceasingly ;)

Hey, what's your name? [Insert Name:] Hmmm, that sounds familiar... I think it was in my Patriarchal Blessing!

i don't know what half of these terms mean. :/

message 2484: by Taylor (new)

Taylor | 0 comments ROFL! Like I said, Mormon culture. Most of them are places/people/objects in the Book of Mormon. Lemme help you out a little.

It's said that our body is a temple of our spirit. So, for that one pick-up line, the speaker's favorite temple is the other person.

Lehi was a dude in the BoM who, in one part of the story, has a dream that symbolizes all this stuff. The basic run-down is that you have people who are following a path to this tree with fruit. The path represents our mortal experience, and the fruit represents God's love. The fruit is described as "precious above all others."

The Liahona is an object that was given by God to a family to help them make a huge journey. It works a lot like a compass.

Pre-existence: the time we spent with God before coming to Earth

Gadianton robbers are bad dudes who show up in the BoM a few times and…rob people. :P

Um…I'm getting bored. Just read the Book of Mormon and you'll get it. XD

Sam~~ we cannot see the moon, and yet the waves still rise~~ | 3061 comments that's actually really cool. sam likey.

okay, so in my head i pronounced "lehi" like "leehee" which sounds really close to leechee (spelling?) so i was already thinking of fruit. haha!

question- when you say G-d, do you mean a mormon dude? or jesus? or the g-d-up-in-the-sky-normal-g-d g-d? hahaha i feel like this would be something i knew if i hung out around people from other religions more blahh.

cool. so is it something that is given to everyone? or only certain people?

NO WAY I NEVER WOULD HAVE FIGURED THAT ONE OUT.

i started reading it a bit a month or two ago. i had to stay at this hotel and i got super bored and one of the drawers had a BoM in it so i just started reading itXD it was actually very interesting. especially seeing what things were similar/different between religions.

message 2486: by Taylor (new)

Taylor | 0 comments Lehi is actually a dude. XD It's pronounced "Lee-high." He's the first person mentioned in the Book of Mormon who leads his family from Jerusalem to the Americas at approximately 600 BC.

Okay…Mormon theology here. Most Christians believe in the Trinity -- three in one and all that jazz. Jews like you believe in G-d as more of a thing without form. Mormons believe that the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are three separate, distinct beings. Here is where I'm going to start bending your brain. When it refers to G-d in the Bible, it is mostly referring to Jesus Christ. The only times when G-d the Father appears in scripture is when He is "introducing" His Son. So…Mormons typically use G-d to describe either the Father or the Son, which can make it awfully confusing. In the case of these pick-up lines, I think it would be referring to the Father.

Nah…sorry, should have clarified. The Liahona was given to Lehi and his family.

You were probably staying at a Marriott, yes? That chain of hotels is run by a Mormon family. You should finish it…so many good teachings. Even if you don't believe in it, there's so much in there that can be put to the test and proven true. I love it. <3

Sam~~ we cannot see the moon, and yet the waves still rise~~ | 3061 comments oh. like the school. i see.

so like, when christians (as a general group) say g-d, do they mean g-d (as in, my g-d) or jesus or both? i've never understood that. i think what you're saying is that in most christian sects/branches/whatever they're called it would mean both, but for mormons it really depends on the context?
also, you have more than one prophet, right?
what do you believe about the bible/torah in terms of if the stuff in it happened and who it was written by and that kind of stuff?
SO MANY QUESTIONS I'M SORRY. why don't i remember what i read *headdesk*
ooh. that is very possible actually.
now i feel like i have to answer all your religious questions too, hahaa.

Sevania (sevthedev) | 2512 comments I've kinda been staring at this conversation for a few minutes and I finally figured out what you mean by g-d.

message 2489: by Taylor (new)

Taylor | 0 comments Christians typically mean both. Traditional Christianity has this belief that G-d is three beings in one and I don't understand it at all.

To clear up confusion in religious discussion, when I talk about the Father, I say "G-d," and for the Son, I say "the Lord" or "Jesus" or "Christ," or any of His bajillion names in the Bible. :D

Yes, you could say we have more than one prophet…sorta. You have "the prophet," who is Thomas S. Monson right now. Then there are his two counselors, and then the twelve apostles. All of them are prophets in that they receive and share revelation from G-d.

I'm not entirely sure what the official Mormon stance is on the validity of other religious works. I mean, we believe in the Bible. The closest I can come to answering this question with something official comes from our "Articles of Faith." (They're basically just summaries of some of our core beliefs. Look 'em up, they're really cool.) The eighth says that "we believe the Bible to be the word of G-d as far as it is translated correctly." We stick to the King James Version, though there are a couple retranslations by the prophet Joseph Smith.

For my personal beliefs on other works, here is what I have to say. Each book (Torah, Quran, etc.) has truths in it. I've personally never finished the Torah, but what I've read, I like. There are a lot of similarities between religious texts, and I like it when things agree with what I believe. And I think that G-d still gives true revelation to even "false churches." As for historical accuracy, I don't think anyone was making things up for the most part.

Keep asking questions as you see fit. As for questions on Judaism, I don't have many -- I have a pretty good handle on your beliefs. :)

Yeah, Jews respect the name of the higher power to the degree that it shouldn't be completely written. When I realize I'm talking to a Jew, I honor their beliefs and do the same.

i think i agree with everything you said here. nice:D
