Update on the music class: the professor emailed me and said I needed to be admitted to the music program in order to take any of these courses because of high demand.
Would you like me to tell you how high the demand is for this course I was trying to get into?

Man…life is not happy tonight. I was just denied admission to a particular music composition class. The prerequisite course is not available until next semester, so I asked the professor ..."
i never saw this post for some reason.
ugh that stinks.
wait, you're deferring for two years now?

Many of the young men who graduated with me deferred admission for the coming two years. I decided to take classes for two semesters, which will allow me to get accustomed to living on my own, before I depart to serve the mission.
If I am admitted to the School of Music in the winter, is I will take Music Composition 1 (the prerequisite course that is not offered in the fall), then defer for the mission, and come back and take the class I would like to have taken this semester.

I don't know Colorado's geography enough to tell if my friend is in danger yet. I texted her 25 minutes ago and still don't have a response, which either means she's preoccupied with being evacuated or sleeping after a long night of waiting--
Wait. She just texted me. I'll be back in a minute.
>.<
Things are still the same. Pre-evacuation status. The family ready to go when necessary.
At least that means things haven't gotten worse….

Will do. According to the local police, 360 homes have already been turned to Charcoal Toast Crunch.
Luckily, after doing some asking around and lots of Google Map stalking, I found that my friend is on the far end of the pre-evac zone, so if the fire changes, she will either have to evacuate last or she'll be the first to be declared safe.
Just from eyeballing it, she's maybe 8-10 miles from the fire right now. Praying for the wind to change.

Two common statistics you will hear often from authors:
1. It takes approximately 10 years of consistent writing in order to become as proficient as a professional.
2. Approximately 1,000,000 words of serious writing must be written in order to become as proficient as a professional.
With my writing group, I wanted to see what would happen if we combined the two statistics.
In other words, HOW MANY WORDS DO I NEED TO WRITE PER DAY TO HAVE WRITTEN 1,000,000 WORDS IN 10 YEARS?
Words/year = 1,000,000/10 = 100,000
SO YOU NEED TO WRITE 100,000 WORDS PER YEAR IN ORDER TO MEET THIS GOAL. A NANOWRIMO MASTER COULD DO THIS IN TWO MONTHS.
LET'S BREAK IT DOWN EVEN MORE.
Words/day = 100,000/365 = 273.973
IF THAT SOUNDS LIKE A LOT, LET ME SHOW YOU HOW MANY DOUBLE-SPACED PAGES THAT IS. LET US APPROXIMATE A PAGE TO BE ABOUT 250 WORDS.
Words/page = 273.972602739726/250 = 1.095890410958904
I'll let the numbers speak for themselves here. Then you should go write.

8-10 miles. Wow. That's pretty close.

She can see it from her house, so yeah…pretty close. I'm gonna text her again in a few hours to see if anything's changed. Unfortunately, real-time map of the fire's spread has stopped working on my computer, so I'm out of the loop right now.

To lighten the mood a little, #blackforestfire is trending on Twitter. That has to mean something, right?

Sorry…I find really strange things to be humorous when I'm stressed.

Main points:
-Two found dead in heavily wooded area -- somehow, police want to carry out a criminal investigation
-Fire at 5% containment. :/
-Focus on north, because more grass is up there. (Why not west? The wind is blowing that way....)
-15,700 acres burned
I can't write with this going on. D:

I'll post more news in a couple hours. I need to eat and go run or something.

I believe things will improve tonight, though. Rain and cooler temperatures will help.

Sorry, I've been drowning myself in the Twitterverse.
I totally understand the whole "yes-man complex." I can't say no either, which became a really bad thing when depression made it difficult to get things done.
If it's too interesting to post here, feel free to message me. :)

nahh, i think just getting that off my chest helped. it's just so frustrating.

I'm mildly embarrassed about my sudden obsession for a problem that indirectly affects me, but whatever.
Yeah…feel free to get whatever you need off your chest whenever you need. I'm available pretty much whenever I'm not at work.

Man…life is not happy tonight. I was just denied admission to a particular music composition class. The prerequisite course is not available until next semester, so I asked the professor if I could take the higher-level class first, given my experience in composing.
And he said no.
So I won't be able to take the higher-level course for three years because I'm deferring for two years for an LDS mission. :/
