Regina (reginar) Me three! I read a book I had been waiting for last night and it is an arc, but I just didn't like it. I actually thought it was really bad and now I feel bad, b/c it was an arc and the author emailed it to me personally. Ugh.

I am now reading Arcadia by Lauren Groff and listening to Driving Mr. Dead (Half Moon Hollow, #1) by Molly Harper

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Stacia, your butter sounds better than my butter. LOL Loved your review.

Tellulah & Regina...I started a few books earlier this week but stopped b/c I couldn't get into them. I think Lover at Last will take a lot of us out of this funk.

Regina, what do you do when you the author asks for an honest review and you hate it? That's some pressure. LOL

message 7753: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I think I will tell the author I was surprised at how much I didn't like it and I won't feature it on the blog. Not sure what I will do on GR. Gah it was awful. If I had gotten it through netgalley or edelweis I wouldn't feel the same pressure. :)

message 7754: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Mar 12, 2013 02:18PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) That's rough. I am so scared to take author requests and have only done it a couple of times, even though I get a lot of them. At least with NG/ED, you can decide whether or not to even submit a review (I will give them my 2 and 3 star reviews, but usually choose to omit the 1 star reviews).

Arcadia is a book I've looked at a couple of times. It looks interesting. Have you read anything else by this author?

(thanks Kay!)

message 7755: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Well, I never take author requests. I usually don't have time and if I haven't found it myself I am not interested (unless it is a friend rec). Exceptions to this are really established authors reaching out to me. But, what makes this worse is I reached out to this author myself b/c I loved the first three in the series. :(

Arcadia was my pick for my in real life book club. Everyone who has read it so far loved it. I am only a few pages in and am enjoying it. This is my first by this author.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I've only taken them from authors who I'm interested in reading from, i.e. Karina Halle gifted me a book recently because she knew I enjoyed one of her other books. The majority of the requests that come my way are spam and I get a lot of them. I used to be polite and write nice "thank you, I'm flattered, but I can't" responses but I tend to ignore the majority of them now. Not out of rudeness but because I feel like I'm constantly busy when I'm on the computer. Maybe I should have a generic response to cut and paste into replies.

message 7757: by Regina (last edited Mar 12, 2013 02:39PM) (new)

Regina (reginar) I don't respond at all. I just can't. I don't think you need to.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Most of these people probably send out several requests, so they probably don't notice if I don't respond.

message 7759: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I agree, most probably don't. :)

message 7760: by Leea (new)

Leea The Bronze Horseman fans... did you see this

http://paullinasimons.com/2013/03/the...

Looks like we're closer to a movie. What do you think of Alex Pettyfer as Alexander?

Also, WENDY READ IT!!! I couldn't help myself :)

Wow! Seems like many favorites are at least trying to make their way to the big screen or cable.

I loved The Bronze Horseman... but it's a tough book. I loved most of the 2nd book, even though, it's tougher in many ways. I wasn't fond of the 3rd book at all; but it did round out the series.

Who was it that got me into the Cut Run series? Someone here... although, admittedly, many aren't thrilled with the actual "mystery" involved in each book, I see that. And I can't say that I'm salivating over Ty or Zane - they're both a little too crazy and unpredictable for me. There's something to them, but I don't quite know what it is.

The Redhead The Unidentified Redhead books... LMAO! LOVE these books. Wendy, was it you that mentioned them?

message 7763: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Lori, Tellulah was reading Cut and Run. :)

Leea, lmfao!! You will never give up, woman! Hahahahahaahah I haven't even read it but the idea Alex Pettyfer drives me crazy, only because he seems to be the go to guy/actor these days. Hey casting director!: Originality please! :D

Yes! Me, Lori! Yeah, the mysteries are thin. And I don't know what it is because generally "batshit insane" doesn't do it for me, but Ty has really gotten to me. Also, book 3 is just plain hot and book 6 has excellent banter. And I do love me some banter as ongoing foreplay. :)

message 7765: by Leea (new)

Leea I always pictured Henry Cavill as Alexander but they're saying because of superman and the timing that he can't do it and he's getting older. So yes that pisses me off. He does have the same kind of edge to him that I always pictured Alexander having... I wonder what they'll do to outlander that will drive us nuts?

Lori, unidentified redhead was hilarious and hot!! I still need to read the second book. Let me know how it is?

message 7766: by Domino (aka Meme) (new)

Domino (aka Meme) (bryghtstarr) | 231 comments gonna take a break on m/m for now and read A Lick of Frost (Meredith Gentry, #6) by Laurell K. Hamilton . felt like some raunchy UF/Fae =D

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Unidentified Redhead is cute. Book 2 was cute too but I liked the first better. It looks like book 3 won't be out for a long time though. I read those before I knew they were fanfiction, otherwise I might have given them a pass. It seems to be a big no-no these days to read p2p fanfic without getting a lecture from someone.

My time is split at the moment between commitments, so I'm still working on Nightshifted, plus I'm starting Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1) by Sarah J. Maas and Highlander Most Wanted (The Montgomerys and Armstrongs, #2) by Maya Banks

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Leea wrote: "I wonder what they'll do to outlander that will drive us nuts?"

I'm sure something... I'm terrified of the casting for that one.

message 7769: by Leea (new)

Leea I am too. Whoever they cast for Jamie better be some none good.

I forgot how much I hate sleeping in hotel rooms with my boys... I got zero sleep and I'm not feeling so great!

message 7770: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Hotel sleeping with young kids sucks.

message 7771: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Leea - Stacia is right: I liked book #1 better, too. But I think it's 'cuz Jack & Grace are falling in love. And you *know* that book #2 means trouble for their relationship, which I didn't want to read. But it's a cute book, and it still made me LOL. I didn't realize these were fanfic, but I don't really visit any fanfic sites or read fanfic. I had no idea FSOG was Twilight fanfic; for me, that would have stopped me right there! (Sorry to all you Twilight fans. I *do* like The Host, though.)

Tellulah - I definitely liked book #3 Fish Chips of the Cut & Run series. I actually found it hot! The other 2 books didn't hit me that way, and as Wendy and Leea know, I've read some hot M-M stuff! You're right, as usual, the "mystery" part is still thin, but the interactions between these 2 guys is so much more fun since they can be out in the open. And while they mystery is thin, the "suspects" are kinda fun, too. (Side note: Since Garrett speaks Spanish so fluently, I'm surprised that he couldn't help Grady figure out the Italian a bit more. No, they're not the same language, but they're in the family.)

HOPING FOR A STELLAR JAMIE!!! Of course, Claire better be well-cast, too! And if they really do TBH, both Tasha and Alexander need to be right. I love Henry Cavill, but yeah... all these guys are getting so popular and tied up with movie commitments, it's tough to see any of them being cast. Although TBH would likely be a big-budget movie. PLEASE don't cast Keira Knightly as anything, especially not Tasha!!!

Suggestions please Lori on hot m/m stuff?

message 7773: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Special Forces is available as PDF downloads on the web - search for it by name. It's a tough series, no doubt... but it was my first major intro to m-m stuff, and Dan & Vadim are HOT! (Not to mention I have a thing for Hooch, too!) There are 3-4 parts, and perhaps it's not all the most well-written book I've ever read... perhaps English is a second language to one or more of the authors... but I really, really love this story and characters. It'll break your heart.

I also like Opening Moves and Middle Game by Sean Michael. He's got several other books, but I haven't checked any of them out. I liked Mind F cked, which is the 1st book of a series; the other books were OK, and this one maybe isn't (again) the most well-written, but the relationship between Sage and Joe is HOT.

I love Emma Holly's Hidden Depths, which has m-m-f-m, but a lot of m-m action, too. Speaking of her, Menage is one of the hottest books I've ever read.

Ava March has some good m-m books - the Brooke Street series and the "Bound" series.

Force of Law is one of my favorite hot m-m books. I haven't read anything else by Jez Morrow, but I'm sure there are more books.

Kate Pearce's "Simply" series has a lot of m-m action, as well as hot m-f, f-f, and m-f-m action. Some of the books are better than others, but once I started reading them, I became addicted.

That's a start, anyway! ;-)

message 7777: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I finished 2 chick lit novels (Un)like a Virgin by Lucy-Anne Holmes Manhunting by Jennifer Crusie . Now, I'm reading a YA Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

message 7778: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Did you like the chic lit novels?

I am enjoying Arcadia by Lauren Groff

I finished Driving Mr. Dead (Half Moon Hollow, #1) by Molly Harper and am listening to The Care and Feeding of Stray Vampires (Half Moon Hollow, #2) by Molly Harper -- I am enjoying the series but it isn't as good as her Naked Werewolf series.

message 7779: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Regina...those chic lits were ok. I'm really looking for some good British ones but I haven't had too much luck lately.

Molly Harper books are funny. You'll have to let me know how that series goes.

message 7780: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Just an aside here, I'm getting really tired of HR heroines who cry during sex because it's so profound. That is all.

message 7781: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) LMAO. I am too. I want a man to cry during sex. Please? LOL.

Molly Harper is so funny. The humor makes the series. I haven't read her first vamp series yet. I think a third in the Naked Werewolf series is supposed to be produced this year.

message 7782: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I just saw that there is a publication date for the new Kate Daniels!

July 20, 2013!!

Magic Rises (Kate Daniels #6) by Ilona Andrews

I already pre-ordered it - kindle version only $7.99!

Oh yay! I still have to read Gunmetal Magic.

message 7785: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) And I just pre-ordered the next Naked Werewolf series, but it won't be released until 12/31: How To Run With A Naked Werewolf (Naked Werewolf, #3) by Molly Harper

Gunmetal Magic is just okay in my opinion, but I think I was in the minority on that one. I liked it, but it wasn't as good as a Kate Daniels book. But it does involve Kate so you should read it.

LOL -- I'll let you know Kay. :)

Regina (reginar) In case anyone is interested, I just saw that Megan Hart has a book up on netgalley: The Favor by Megan Hart

I like her writing but her stories are soooo emotional! I need to have my mind right before I can start her books. I just added it to my list. Thanks!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I keep saying that I'm done with Megan Hart but that one does look sort of interesting. I might have to consider it.

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Stacia (does not squee) wrote: "I keep saying that I'm done with Megan Hart but that one does look sort of interesting. I might have to consider it."

The thing with me and Megan Hart is that I'm never really happy when I finish her books b/c I like my HEAs tied up nicely. Her books don't always have that but do end realistically.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I think I'd like her better if her books weren't marketed as erotica. When I pick up an erotica, it's for the purpose of reading something super steamy and arousing. If I want to read a sad or realistic story, I'll go read a literary fiction or some Jojo Moyes or something similar.

message 7791: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I don't like my HEAs tied up nicely, lol! I love the realistic end, but granted I have only read one book by her.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) The HEA tied up nicely isn't a big concern of mine either. I've read books that I've liked where everything wasn't tied up in a pretty bow and been fine with it.

It's just the wtf-why-is-this-erotica? for me, haha.

I don't mind non-HEAs but I just need to know in advance. I'm too emotional sometimes and can't take it. LOL I still haven't finished Garden of Stones yet...I'm too nervous for the ending.

I would be curious to hear what you think about
Broken by Megan Hart . This one people either love or hate it.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) That cover is so misleading! You think it's gonna be sex-sex-sex!

message 7797: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I understand. I get that, especially since I had to put that book down and I love Littlefield.

I need to read that, I keep meaning to. I have so many books by Hart. I just never seem to have the time to read them.

message 7798: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) LOL -- just like my shelf. ;)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I love your shelf.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Have you guys ever had a book that's not doing it for you, but you almost feel like you want to stick it out but don't know why?

I'm struggling through Nightshifted (Edie Spence, #1) by Cassie Alexander and part of me wants to give up but I'm past the halfway point now, so I feel like I should keep going.
