Leea I was wondering what you and DG were always talking about. That does sound fun :)

Finished Midnight Kiss (Includes Virgin River, #12) by Robyn Carr ... Now i'm going to read Daughters of Rome by Kate Quinn with Kay :)

If you ladies haven't read Mistress of Rome by Kate Quinn it's really a book that once you start, you cannot put down. Moving, engaging and beautifully written. It's really one of my favorite love stories because of the instant connection between the main characters. I still think about this book and I read it Jan 2011. My mother in law bought me the book for Christmas because it was one of those book you couldn't find anywhere. The Author,
Kate Quinn truly has talent. She just released Empress of the Seven Hills by Kate Quinn

Regina (reginar) You are done! LOL. :) What did upi think?

message 453: by Laura (last edited Apr 09, 2012 02:30PM) (new)

Laura | 131 comments Leea you are right! Mistress of Rome was great!

I just finished The Duke's Perfect Wife (Highland Pleasures, #4) by Jennifer Ashley . Was so good but then fell kinda flat for me at the end. :(

message 454: by Leea (new)

Leea Regina, it was short, 75 pages and very sweet. Missing that 'thing' that makes Carr's books so engaging. No sex, but we get to learn what happens to Drew Foley. We know about his sisters story but I always wondered if we'd get his.

Did you finish or even start yet?

I'm at home with a sick kid, that's now feeling better and now I have a 101 temp. ugh!

message 455: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Leea who are his sisters?!! Who did they marry?

I am just at the beginning. I agree. It is missing that something special.

message 456: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Oh no!! Does he have strep or an ear infection?

message 457: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I seriously adored Mistress of Rome. I finished it last night and it is amazing and epic. I can't wait to start Daughters of Rome...if only work isn't getting in the way right now.

Leea, speed reader, try to read it slow b/c I don't think I can finish in a couple of days since work is a bit hectic these next few days for me.

message 458: by Kay (new)

Did you read Daughters of Rome yet?

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Did both kids get sick or just the one?

message 460: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Ah - Marcie and Ian -- she is the first Foley right? The first Christmas story (which is by the way my very very favorite Virgin River story) A Virgin River Christmas (Virgin River, #4) by Robyn Carr was there another Foley story?

message 461: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Leea holy crap and kinda funny but I thought I read up to #11 but I had my numbering wrong, I only read up to #10, lol. So #11 is about the other Foley sister who hooks up with Aidan. :) Moonlight Road (Virgin River, #11) by Robyn Carr - -I need to add that to my iphone tonight and listen to it. I was going crazy b/c I couldn't figure out 1) Annie's and Nate's story (the vet and his wife); and 2) who the other Foley sister was -- and it was because I missed two VR books! Moonlight Road (Virgin River, #11) by Robyn Carr That Holiday Feeling (Includes Virgin River, #8) by Debbie Macomber -- not that it makes any difference in the storyline but it was driving me batty!

message 462: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I was so confused too b/c I remember Erin being an attorney and asking Paul to build a cabin for her -- it was in Angel's Peak. I also remember her being bossy (she is an attorney right, aren't all female attorneys bossy :) ) to Marcie in #4. Okay. I feel better. I have two more VR stories than I thought I did and I am not forgetting everything.

message 463: by Leea (new)

Leea Regina, Yeah Marci and Ian... didn't Marci's sister (forgot her name) redo her house and fall in love with the contractor? Did I just make that up in my head? lol! She was in charge of raising them. Marci and Ian, beautiful story one of my favorites as well :)

It's Garrett who's sick, the fever is gone he had is yesterday and we didn't even know. He always runs a little warm but when we got home last night we realized he had a low grade fever. It's gone now but i've got one.

HAHAHAHA! I thought the fever had messed with my brain. lol!

message 465: by Leea (new)

Leea Kay, I'll read slow... or at least i'll do my best :)

message 466: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) DG -- are you doing Bingo again?

Leea -- drat! Can your husband stay home tomorrow to help you?

message 467: by Leea (last edited Apr 09, 2012 03:43PM) (new)

Leea He's home now... just got home, making me soup and now he's going to take Garrett to the doctor because he just started saying his ear hurts.

I never read VR #8... So when I read Midnight Kiss and Anna and Nathaniel was in it, I couldn't figure out who that was. lol! We're a pair!

message 468: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Hahaha! That is funny, I am not alone then. :) It is interesting, b/c another Christmas story Bring Me Home for Christmas (Virgin River, #16) by Robyn Carr is also my favorite. #16 is where I started working on the back end of the series.

It is also funny Leea, b/c in Ellie and Noah's book Forbidden Falls (Virgin River, #9) by Robyn Carr -- the dog/puppies play a role and they kept referencing the puppies left on christmas and I had no idea what the characters were talking about! It is because those puppies happened in #8!!

message 469: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) awwww, poor guy! some amox will fix him right up. Sounds like you need some alone time!

Yeah, I was lost on that part about he puppies. ha! With so many VR books and all the covers look the same it's hard to keep them all straight. So, are you going to read #10 next? It's a good one :)

message 471: by Leea (new)

Leea Regina wrote: "awwww, poor guy! some amox will fix him right up. Sounds like you need some alone time!"

He's got a fever again, we basically have to pay cash for any Doctor visits or medicine so that should be really fun :)

message 472: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) We have a high deductible policy too. $5k.

message 473: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Regina wrote: "DG -- are you doing Bingo again?"

You mean in the next round? Most likely! Unless it starts when I'm on vacation or something like that. :)

message 474: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I requested a print version of Mistress of Rome by Kate Quinn . I got tired waiting to see if one of them was going to get it in ebook but no dice!

So I'll be reading it in the next month or so, I hope.

message 475: by Leea (new)

Leea I just have the print version or i'd lend the ebook to your :) I hope you like it.

message 476: by Susan (new)

Susan I am reading The Secret by Julie Garwood and Guilty Wives by James Pattersonand am hoping to start The Unsung Hero by Suzanne Brockmann some time today.........uuuggghhh so much pressure!! LOL

message 477: by Leea (new)

Leea Susan, I love Garwood... enjoy. Also, I hope you enjoy Unsung Hero, I sure did.

message 478: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I love Garwood too! I haven't read a lot by her but my fave so far is The Bride (Lairds' Fiancées, #1) by Julie Garwood .

I only read a bit of Daughters of Rome by Kate Quinn last night. So far, this book isn't grabbing me like Mistress of Rome. But I can see myself liking Marcella.

Leea, how are you feeling about it so far?

message 479: by Leea (new)

Leea I was only able to read the prologue last night... I plan on reading more today. I already think I should take notes because I don't want to confuse the characters.

message 480: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments At the end of the ebook (around pg 325ish) there is a list of characters. I noticed it after I finished Mistress of Rome and thought if they put that at the beginning of the book, it would have helped me a lot more when I started it! LOL

message 481: by Leea (new)

Leea I'll look for it. I remember using that character list when I read the print version of Mistress of Rome.

No I haven't read it, do you recommend it so far?? I have it on my TBR.

message 483: by D.G. (last edited Apr 10, 2012 01:34PM) (new)

D.G. I finished Hammered (Iron Druid Chronicles, #3) by Kevin Hearne which I enjoyed as usual. Now I started Crossed (Matched, #2) by Ally Condie . I wanted an audio I already had in my iPod, not to long and a series I started already and this one fit the bill.

Going a bit slow like the first book and I find I don't remember some things.

message 484: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Laura, I just started it so I can't really say. I'm still feeling out the story and characters at the moment. I'll let you know later tho!

message 485: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I finished reading The Pearl by John Steinbeck by John Steinbeck last night and this morning I've started Flash and Bones by Kathy Reichs by Kathy Reichs.

message 486: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Apr 10, 2012 01:32PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) D.G. I was not very thrilled with Crossed. If the series was longer than a trilogy, I would have given up but at least it's almost over now.

Still working on Black Heart (Curse Workers, #3) by Holly Black and enjoying it and also started my first KA book. I feel like I'm out of the loop with so many friends being fans. Knight (Bad Boys, #1) by Kristen Ashley ...and I was just warned that this book is more extreme than her normal content, so I went and read a spoiler and was like...oh, haha.

message 487: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Yes, I read part of your review, Stacia and I think I'll end up agreeing with you.

message 488: by Leea (new)

Leea Knight - sounds like it could be good. I can't wait to hear what you think. I really want to read Mystery Man (Dream Man, #1) by Kristen Ashley .

I'm about 80 pages into Daughters of Rome by Kate Quinn it didn't grab me like Mistress of Rome did, right from the start but I can tell this is going to be slow build. Understanding the Roman terms/names is sometimes hard. ha!

message 489: by Regina (last edited Apr 10, 2012 02:26PM) (new)

Regina (reginar) I read last night Midnight Kiss (Includes Virgin River, #12) by Robyn Carr That Holiday Feeling (Includes Virgin River, #8) by Debbie Macomber and they were okay. That Holiday Feeling was decent, Midnight Kiss was meh, thankfully it was short.

I started the audio of today and am halfway through it already : Moonlight Road (Virgin River, #11) by Robyn Carr -- despite the fact that the author's silly stereotype of a female attorney is over the top and she uses some language about law school and the practice in correctly, I am enjoying it. I am particuarly enjoying that the heroine has a hard time orgasming -- and is insecure about it. Carr always seems to have something slightly unconventional about her leads, but usually the women are positive about everything -- happy in the face of devistation and easy to orgasm even with their jeans on, lol. Seriously. But she wrote this character a little bit different so it is nice. Also Ian and Marcie were my favorite couple so far, so it is nice to see them again.

When I am done I will return to the audio of The Bourne Identity (Jason Bourne, #1) by Robert Ludlum which I am liking it.

I am also reading Gardens of the Moon (Malazan Book of the Fallen, #1) by Steven Erikson and I am progressing slowly because the world building is confusing, but I am liking it. I am also starting a netgalley that looks interesting today Rain Dragon A Novel by Jon Raymond

I liked that Erin was honest about her not reaching an orgasm so easily. I loved that Aiden was took on that challenge lol!

message 491: by Jen (at last!) (last edited Apr 10, 2012 02:40PM) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) I've been on a western kick with Lorraine Heath. I have to wait for payday to get her Rogue and Daughters of Fortune books. lol

So, in the meantime, I'm going to finish Lord John and the Scottish Prisoner (Lord John Grey, #3) by Diana Gabaldon .

message 492: by Leea (new)

Leea Jen, I share in your Heath love... Kay was the one who got me into her westerns and they're great. I still need to read the Rogue books.

message 493: by Jen (at last!) (last edited Apr 10, 2012 03:08PM) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) Seriously, the group read turned me onto Heath with Texas Destiny and I haven't stopped since. I just don't want the bubble to be burst b/c of repeated themes. Ya know? Wounded, scarred(either emotional or physical or both) H and H meet and something happens to one or both to make you bawl your eyes out. It worked for the Leigh brothers(and Jake from Sweet Lullaby now that I think of it, lol) b/c of what happened to them in their childhood. I just don't want to read more of the same for the other series. I hope they vary.

I think I'm going to get a sample from Kindle and see how they are. I'll let you know! ;)

message 494: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Jen, I love Lorraine Heath's westerns, like Leea said. Her Rogues in Texas are about Englishmen who find their way to Fortune, Tx. The story line isn't similar to her Texas trilogy at all but I still think her Texas trilogy is the best. I did love the first book of Daughters of Fortune but not so much of the latter ones since those are set in England which then spin off to her Lost Lords series. Which is also the end of her writing westerns :*(

message 495: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Leea, the build is slow for me also in Daughters of Rome. But I have a feeling that when it picks up, it will be worth the wait....at least I hope!

message 496: by Leea (new)

Leea See Jen, Kay knows all about Heath :)

Kay, I feel like that's how it's going to be. I'm just about to start Part Two, Otho. The last chapter in the first part was really good. I love Diana and I feel like she's going to be the hidden gem. I really love all the women and how different they are. Where are you at in the book?

message 497: by Jen (at last!) (last edited Apr 10, 2012 03:13PM) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) Why, oh, why did she stop writing westerns?! This makes me very sad.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good Regency/Victorian romance, but I LOVE a good western. I think it's b/c I have a thing for cowboys.

I'll give the Rogues of Texas a whirl and the first Daughters of Fortune per your recommendation. Thanks, Kay. :)

message 498: by Kay (last edited Apr 10, 2012 03:21PM) (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I do love Heath and her westerns and haven't found any other western romances that compare :( Jen, she has some stand alone westerns that I really enjoyed as well....especially Sweet Lullaby by Lorraine Heath . This is about a beta male which was refreshing for me to read. i don't know why she stopped writing westerns. I may have read that at the time she was writing them, westerns weren't as popular as regency historicals. that may be why she switched.

Leea, I'm on the last chapter of part 1. So, we're around the same part. I'm working though so I may not be able to get anymore reading done until tonight. Yes, the women are interesting and now that (view spoiler) I still don't know everyone's names no matter how many times I go back to the reference of characters. LOL

message 499: by Jen (at last!) (last edited Apr 10, 2012 03:26PM) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) Kay, I read Sweet Lullaby per Leea's recommendation!!! It was the second of Heath's books I read. I LOVE that book!!! It will be one of the ones I repeat read.

I wonder if we can petition her to start up her westerns again? ;)

message 500: by Leea (new)

Leea Kay, that's why i've been taking notes... you should see my clip board with pen and I keep taking a great to write down names. So lame! haha!
