I'm reading this one too. I just started it yesterday but I haven't had much of a chance to read it. So far I'm liking it. What an interesting story. It reminds me of the movie "Equilibrium" starring Christian Bale.

message 1454: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Leea that picture is hilarious.

message 1456: by Leea (new)

Leea I started Liberating Lacey by Anne Calhoun and am about half way through and it's just okay. Part are hard to follow and seem choppy.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Phew. I was starting to think there was something wrong with me for only thinking it was okay. It's as if everyone on the planet adores the book and I'm missing out by not getting it!

message 1458: by Jocelin (new)

Jocelin | 85 comments Currently reading Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2) by Suzanne Collins ? No romance @ the moment but, I have a pile of books just aching to be read.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) No worries. Many of us don't read romance books 100% of the time.

Hunger Games is a good series.

message 1460: by Leea (new)

Leea Yeah, love the Hunger games books.

message 1461: by Caitlyn (new)

Caitlyn (caitlynj) haha Tellulah, thanks for that giggle :)

Well I've got passed the 50 page mark (well passed it) and I'm still reading. (view spoiler) I wanted to see what was going to happen next but my train got to my station and I had to get off and now I shouldn't even be on here!

message 1462: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I finished Blackout (Newsflesh Trilogy, #3) by Mira Grant , and now I'm reading It's Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini .

message 1463: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Wendy I am sorry you didn't enjoy the ending. I really loved the ending, I think I loved every page of this book but I can see where you are coming form.

When I was ready to start another book I was nowhere near the computer to upload The Starving Years by Jordan Castillo Price so instead I started and am now halfway through Mnevermind 1 The Persistence of Memory by Jordan Castillo Price . You know how in Psycop the series is character heavy, really well done first person point of view, interesting and carefully developed side characters? It is the same in this book so far. And the same with Psycop, the urban fantasy element is very unique and meshed perfectly with modern world. It is set in Madison, WI (near where JCP lives now). So far nothing exciting or page turning is happening in the book, but it is so good and so enjoyable, I love it.

I am also listening to The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon by Stephen King . I like it, but the main drawback is the character is supposed to be 9, however she acts more like a 14 year old. I hate when authors/movie makers use young characters to pull at our hearts but then make them mini very sage adults.

I may end up putting Monster Hunter International (MHI, #1) by Larry Correia aside. I enjoyed the first nine hours of audio, but I have absolutely no desire to return to it. Funny, Ilona Andrews stopped at the same point I did. I also made a mistake and read the author's blog. I have no problems if I don't like an author or disagree with an author's politics, but he has some out there rants on his blog (like comparing the modern democrat platform to the german nazi wwII platform and hating on anyone who disagrees with him) and I thought it wasn't a big deal, but now everytime I listen to the book I hear the author and I can't separate it. There are many instances where I don't agree with an author's politics but love their work. Or I don't agree with what an author blogs about and still love their work. Most immediate example is the author of Wool -- I LOVE his books (which have just been picked up by 20th century for a movie!) but disagree with his politics -- but who cares really? It is all subjective opinion, you know? So I guess my point is, I am finding it weird that I just see the author of Monster Hunter as this raving guy and can't separate it. Maybe I just need more time away from the book. However, I feel bad b/c a GR friend recommended it to me. I am okay with having bought it, b/c it was on an audible sale for only 4.95, I knew there was a chance I wouldn't like it.

A side note, I feel even worse I think when I really like an author as a person/blogger/goodreads friend and end up not liking their book!

message 1464: by D.G. (new)

D.G. A side note, I feel even worse I think when I really like an author as a person/blogger/goodreads friend and end up not liking their book!

That's why I don't friend authors. Given my style of reviewing (where I don't pull my punches), I don't like to feel that I'm being untrue to my review because I'm careful of the author's feelings.

And I seldom read author's blogs for the same reason (except Patrick Rothfuss who is really funny) or learn too much about their personal life. If there's something I don't like about them, it may interfere with my reading, like it happened with Anne Perry. Once I learned she was a convicted murderer (and what a murder that was) now I don't feel like reading her books even though I've enjoyed them in the past.

message 1465: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) That murder is so disturbing too!! Have you seen the movie? The movie is really good, but god!!!!!!!! Yeah, I can see why it would effect your impression of her writing.

DG that is a good policy on all fronts. I should have not looked at his blog. I have no idea why I did. It was dumb. I think maybe b/c aside from Orson Scott Card, I have never had a bad feeling about an author after reading their blog -- I wasn't prepared for this.

Disturbing is right. Both of them should have been coming out of jail and/or mental institution right about now. No, I haven't seen the movie and probably I won't if I want to continue reading the series.

BTW...the series I like by her reminds me of Tana French books (LOTs of fucked up situations). That's why I think I know what's happening in Faithful Place because it reminded me of a couple of books in the William Monk series.

For you to be so bothered, he sounds like a jackass.

message 1467: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Regina, it does stink that life interfered with my enjoyment. It really wasn't the book at all. I loved the ending and the blogs and Shaun and George. It was great. It was just so sporadic that there was no real time to let the words build my emotion back up. I'll eventually try to reread it, probably when my paper edition comes.

You're making me want to start reading Mnevermind! That sounds awesome, and I love JCP!

message 1468: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I hope everyone had a good mother's day. I love the pic Leea posted. So cute!

Mnevermind sounds good!! I still have to finish the PsyCop series tho.

I finished Amplified by Tara Kelly over the weekend. I'm also listening to Prey (Shifters, #4) by Rachel Vincent . Now, I'm reading The Unidentified Redhead (Redhead, #1) by Alice Clayton which is pretty funny. I'm only on Ch 5 but there has been more than one reference to New Kids on the Block and I'm loving that! LOL

message 1469: by Susan (new)

Susan I'm reading In Honor by Jessi Kirby In Honor by Jessi Kirby and it is really really good!!

message 1470: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Kay how is the audio for the Shifters? I have thought about listening to it ....

message 1471: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Ha! I love books that reference New Kids. I always feel a little more connected to the story. (Or any of my personal pop culture obessions.)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Regina wrote: "Kay how is the audio for the Shifters? I have thought about listening to it ...."

I'm following it pretty good (my mind tends to wander with audiobooks). I think that's b/c I read the ebooks for the first 3 books and I'm familiar to the world. I've yet to really like like the voices to any of the narrators I've read so far (granted I've only listened to about 4). So, I'm unsure to even give a good opinion on if the audio is good or not. Hahha...sorry, Regina, I don't have a good answer for you.

Is this a YA book, Susan? I just read a couple of YAs this past weekend so I'm in search for some more.

Susan yes it is! :) I think I got it as an Amazon freebie.......

I keep seeing this book and I really want to read it. Can't wait for your review, Susan.

Wait it's free... off to check, Thanks!

**note the cover change on this one. lmao!

message 1477: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I guess at this point we have to laugh at the cover changes because they don't seem in a rush to fix it. :(

The book sounds good. Too bad it's not a freebie anymore!

message 1478: by Susan (new)

Susan Why did the cover change? Lol

message 1479: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Susan wrote: "Why did the cover change? Lol"

It's a bug that's been around for a couple of weeks and GR hasn't deigned to fix it yet.

message 1480: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) So many bugs. The cover bug and the no updating of reviewer ranks -- oh and the constant no notification bug.

message 1481: by Susan (new)

Susan My notifications have just started up again. Im in around 30 groups and was getting nothing since April 12th! Very annoying!

message 1482: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I check my groups so often that I don't have those notifications enabled but I seem to be getting all the other ones.

message 1483: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) For days it wasn't the group or response notifications, it was the "like" notifications that weren't coming through -- both on statuses and on reviews. It was fixed on Friday.

It is annoying. I tend to check the notirfications tab in the right hand corner since I no longer trust GR.

I didn't even notice! But I see what you mean now. I see I didn't have any 'likes' for almost two days.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Finally finished Special Forces - Soldiers (Special Forces, #1) by Marquesate and it was good but I'll need a long break before trying book 2!

Onto my buddy read with Kay The Unidentified Redhead (Redhead, #1) by Alice Clayton

message 1487: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Just read your review, loved it!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Thanks!

...and what a cliffhanger that was! HOW MUCH CAN TWO PEOPLE FLIPPING GO THROUGH?!?

Let's hope that the redhead book is as funny as it looks like it might be. I think anything serious right now would be lost on me. What? You lost your house? Tell that to Dan and Vadim! They were in caves!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Oh good! I'll be able to discuss it with you more later tonight or tomorrow because my husband is working the night shift so I'll be happily reading after dinner. :)

I got through chapter 2 before bed last night and it seems like it's going to be fun but wow it started off sort of hyper. Talk about full speed dialogue!

message 1491: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) haha, that is funny!

message 1493: by Leea (new)

Leea Oh I can't wait to read your review, Stacia!

Yeah, GR has been a mess for like a month... I hope they start fixing these glitches, notifications or lack there of are driving me crazy!

Finished Liberating Lacey by Anne Calhoun and it was okay! Hunter and Lacey were hot. Some of the themes of the book seemed over emphasized. Lacey's money and Hunters feeling that he was lacking.

Wendy, you up for another Troubleshooter book soon?

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Regina wrote: "I should have never left it, you know when you leave books it is so hard to go back."

I understand. This can kill books for me.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Oops, didn't see your comment when I was posting.

Have I told you lately that I love you Leea? At least there is someone else out there other than me who didn't give it a 5 star rating. Now I don't feel so guilty.

Random, but I also thought the use of stockings and business suits dated the story but I never checked to see when it was published.

message 1496: by Aoibhínn (new)

Leea Stacia it's been a few weeks since you've declared your love for me... again :) lol! Love you, back. At least if those 5 star ladies come after us we can band together. hahaha! I thought the sex was okay, plus the whole (view spoiler)

I agree ladies, it does not work if the leading men are named after your children, nope, no way! Or Brothers, I read a book once with a Troy and I kept thinking about my brother, ewww!

Elli, sweetie, those are some emotional books. You might need something light and funny after A Stolen Life :) I haven't read it but I've wanted to, can't wait for your review.

HAHAHAHAHA!!!! Right! I had a bit of a hard time with that right after the book. I told my friend I needed something light so I was reading Insurgent. She asked what it was about and I was saying 'This war, and factions, and people being killed, and blah blah blah' and she was like, I thought you needed something light. I was like, you have NO IDEA how dark Soldiers was!

I'm reading It's Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini , after that I'm going to tackle Rot & Ruin (Benny Imura, #1) by Jonathan Maberry , because a friend of mine has been wanting me to read it forever.

After that I'll be down for the next Troubleshooter book. Can we shoot for next week?
