Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Leea, I'm here...just been reading the same book for a few days now.

I heard The First Days is really good. I really liked the author's vampire books Pretty When She Dies (Pretty When She Dies, #1) by Rhiannon Frater and The Tale Of The Vampire Bride (Vampire Bride, #1) by Rhiannon Frater . Her writing is very gritty and I love it!

Leea I'm about 24% into The First Days (As the World Dies, #1) by Rhiannon Frater and it's very good. I'm hooked, right from the first sentence. It's this amazing mix of horrifying events/moments and humor, not a lot but a great mix.

Thanks for suggesting this one, ladies!

message 6558: by Caitlyn (new)

Caitlyn (caitlynj) Question... has anyone read the Lara Adrian Midnight Breed series? I finished the first in the series yesterday and it wasn't great but maybe because its the poor cousin of BDB. I knew that the series were similar before I started and if Ward is going to endorse the books than I have no issue in that regard. I do have issue in the aspects that didn't need to be similar, of course vampires as warrior good guys paranormal romance are going to have some similarities that I'm fine with, I often like knowing what I'm getting in to but the aspects such as ...(view spoiler) Just unimaginative. If a writer is going to use another's ideas then at least don't rewrite every page. What are some of your ideas on this topic?

message 6559: by Caitlyn (new)

Caitlyn (caitlynj) In other news, I got Dragonfly in Amber from the library today. I've been waiting for it since the start of November.

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 602 comments I just finished In Bed With the Devil (Scoundrels of St. James, #1) by Lorraine Heath and loved it!

Up next will most likely be Between the Devil and Desire (Scoundrels of St. James, #2) by Lorraine Heath .

I agree Caitlyn. The poor cousin is a perfect description. I stopped around the 4th or 6th books in that series. The sex scenes are well written and there is a good deal of angst, but I found them too similar to BDB and every book was so ridiculously similar -- a woman who had no societal contacts and was all alone yet somehow marked to be a mate. Personally, I don't think it is worth you reading further.

Enjoy Dragonfly in Amber! I loved that book.

I just realized that I started the second in a series instead of the first. I am 30% in, so I will finish and I am able to understand what is going on, but it stinks b/c I know what happens with a love interest/enemy at the end of book 1.

Great! I am glad you are enjoying it. You are right, the beginning of First Days is addictive -- the concept of what Jennie has been through and lost is so horrific. I think this series would make a great tv series. I read this series before I saw Walking Dead and many of my criticisms of Walking Dead came from what the characters did in First Days to survive.

I'm one who has invested a lot of precious reading time into the whole series. I started off thinking the books were okay and did compare it to BDB a lot! (BDB is still hands down the better PNR here!) After a few books in, I was able to appreciate the characters and world without comparing it to BDB anymore since the bad guys are pretty bad and the women with their powers were a part of the fight. I do have to say that I don't like the direction the author has taken with the last book. But I will still continue on reading since I've already invested so much time. Do I recommend this? Hmmm...well, if you like PNR with some cheese! Yes! But for more substance, I wouldn't waste your time.

Courtney | 337 comments I am seriously loving Kiss an Angel by Susan Elizabeth Phillips ! Haven't loved a book so much in a long time! I think I might go out and buy more books by this author.

message 6569: by Courtney (last edited Jan 09, 2013 07:26PM) (new)

Courtney | 337 comments Ok, I may have spoken a little too soon since I wasn't done with Kiss an Angel by Susan Elizabeth Phillips yet. I did love it, but not as much when I finished it. I wasn't too fond of the climax and the resolution, so the ending kind of fell off for me.

I loved the humor in this book and it caught me by surprise since I haven't read a funny book in quite a while. I also love the author's style of writing so I will be tempted to buy more by her. But probably will proceed with a little more caution and research for each book that I want to read.

That one's been on my to-ponder list for awhile now, I think I'm going to bump it up to more of a priority, keep hearing good things about it :)

message 6571: by Leea (new)

Leea Bump it up... I finished The First Days (As the World Dies, #1) by Rhiannon Frater and LOVED it!! I found myself comparing it to The Walking Dead. I enjoyed the honest friendship between Katie and Julie the most. I'm beat tonight so I plan on writing a review tomorrow.

I'm going to read Under the Never Sky (Under the Never Sky, #1) by Veronica Rossi ... another buddy read with Wendy F. We need pics done Wendy so I can post those beauties in my review.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) YAY for all of The First Days reads. :) I still need to read book 3 of the trilogy at some point, so let me know if you guys ever make it there.

And a second yay (hey, I don't squee but I do yay) for Under the Never Sky.

Finished Every Day by David Levithan and I really think that I'd be curious to see Wendy and Regina's (and anyone else's too, but I thought of W&R as ones who would be the takers) opinions on this one. The book messed with my head big time. I liked it, but at the same time was freaking out over so many things.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Oh, and enjoy Perry and Roar. I love how they play off each other, being opposites!

Wow, I've never seen that cover of Under the Never Sky. I think I like it more.

YES, The First Days (As the World Dies, #1) by Rhiannon Frater was a wild ride! I couldn't put the book down. So good.

Stacia, I'm going to try to squeeze that in this weekend, Every Day, because I need something that's more of a serious book (and it sounds like it might be?). So I'll definitely let you know what I think of it.

message 6576: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I feel bad but I got bored with Sparks (Anya Kalinczyk, #2) by Laura Bickle I really liked I at the beginning. Not sure what happened.

message 6577: by Leea (new)

Leea Changed my mind... again. Haha! Putting Under the Never Sky on hold, because I have to read Fighting to Survive (As The World Dies, #2) by Rhiannon Frater . I just have to know what happens. For those who've read it, is there a cliffhanger at the end?

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 602 comments I think the 'updates' feed is nothing but trouble. I've added hundreds of books since I've discovered it. LOL If I click on it and someone has marked something to be read, I check it out, and more often than not, it ends up on my TBR list.

I'm going to have to quit my job and become a full time reader.

message 6592: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) LOL Angie, so true.

I started and finished last night The Warrior (Return of the Highlanders, #3) by Margaret Mallory and it was just okay.

Angie, it has the theme you like --hotter older brother and younger sister.

I liked the romance part, although things happened too quickly and conveniently. It also had my most hated method of telling a story -- the bad guys' POV. I am thinking slightly less than 3 stars. I got it from NG. I likely won't read the sequel (which I also got from NG). But I was interested enough to finish it in one night, I did skim quite a bit too.

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) Yesterday I finished reading The Dressmaker by Kate Alcott by Kate Alcott. I really enjoyed this novel. It was very hard to put it down. I loved all the historical details about the Titanic and its survivors. I liked this unique take on the Titanic disaster. Not many books about the Titanic sinking feature the aftermath of it and how survivors try to deal with what happened and move on. I gave it 4 stars!
My full review is here: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

I'm also about to finish Twelve Sharp (Stephanie Plum, #12) by Janet Evanovich by Janet Evanovich and make a start on The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty by William Peter Blatty.
