message 170: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn (caroheartsbooks) | 897 comments i am currently waiting for my dad to actually get my books from the library but im technically banned from reading (by my mom) so i have my dad sneak some books to me from the library :)

message 171: by Nicole D. (new)

Nicole D. (thereadingrebel) | 1278 comments @ Francesca Pride and Prejudice is better then Persuasion IMO so I would read P&P

@Caro why are banned form reading?

message 172: by Caity, that crazy moderator (new)

Caity | 4434 comments Mod
unless of course, Francesca you haven't read Persuasion, you should do that one. :) I liked it.
yea, Caro, WHY?!

message 173: by Nicole D. (new)

Nicole D. (thereadingrebel) | 1278 comments Alice is right Francesca if you have already read P&P read Persuasion.Have you read any of Austen's other works?

message 176: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Nicole and Alice! :)
I've read S&S recently... P&P a couple of years ago...

message 177: by Caity, that crazy moderator (new)

Caity | 4434 comments Mod
any of them would be good then. ;) either one.
Caro: Ah. ;) well It's too bad you can't read. :/

message 178: by Sophie, The Romantic Moderator :) (new)

Sophie | 2550 comments Mod
I would say Francesca P&P for a more light hearted one or Persuasion for a properly romantic one!!! Defo read Persuasion sometime if you haven't read it!! Recommend reading all the Austen novels sometime!!!

message 179: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Soph. I think I'll dive into Persuasion. After reading Sherlock Holmes for a while I need a romance. :) And I definately plan to read all of Austen's works!

Maybe you girls can help me:
I have a friend who says that Austen wrote a book called 'Envy' and a movie was made of it. But I'm practically certain JA didn't write 'Envy'... any ideas?

message 180: by Sophie, The Romantic Moderator :) (new)

Sophie | 2550 comments Mod
i don't think so...
P&P, MP, NA, S&S, Emma and Persuasion.
Then ... Lady Susan, Sanditon, her letters.... um...
never heard of 'envy'...

message 181: by Sophie, The Romantic Moderator :) (new)

Sophie | 2550 comments Mod
and enjoy Persuasion and yes!! read all her work :D

message 185: by [deleted user] (new)

I recently started a kindle freebie I think you might like, Alice. It's called Twixt.

Twixt by Diane J. Reed

It's full of Irish superstition and fairy magic, romance and drama! And quirky characters!

It's a tad confusing in the beginning, but a very good read thus far. :)

message 187: by Lianne (new)

Lianne (eclecticreading) Still reading Christopher Duggan's The Force of Destiny: A History of Italy Since 1796 (am in the mid- to late-19c at the moment xD) but I've started reading Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse-Five. I never read this in school and it's pretty quirky/interesting so far.

Nicole D. (thereadingrebel) | 1278 comments Lilliandil to repeat Alice's question How do you like it so far?Have you read Austen before or is this your first?

message 196: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 317 comments I hope you like it Lilliandil! Jane Austen is amazing!
I am currently reading "For You alone" the second book in a two book series by Susan Kaye that tells Captain Wentworth's view of Persuasion by Jane Austen. I'd recommend the first book, None But You, and this other one to anyone who's read Persuasion!
