Beth (bbulow) Haha, Alice, you sound thrilled ;) I think I was the only one in my entire English class that actually read the entirety of Frankenstein. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it.

hahaha no, not thrilled; but I can't start a book and not finish it (unless its BAD but I try and not pick those out in the first place ;)) so I read it all. I had a study going with it that I had to write things in the "slots" though so it kept me going waiting for the "next thing" to do. ;P I did not like Frankenstein although it was very well written; I liked the style of writing. But I didn't mind Jekyll/Hyde; that one was more like a life analogy to me whereas Frankenstein was obvs steered towards being a horrow/suspense story....quite morbid, really. But yes- I found Jekyll/Hyde interesting and liked the bit of British humor in the beginning. I liked Utterson and Poole, the butler. :) however I would not care to re-read either. ;) right now for school I'm reading the Deadliest Monster; which applies life lessons and things to the two books. pretty interesting. :)

message 755: by Beth (new)

Beth (bbulow) I agree. It was well-written, but like you, I didn't particularly enjoy it.

I've never read Dr. J & Mr. H. Not sure if I ever would.

Kim-Lost-In-A-Book I loved Dracula! I couldn't get into Frankenstein but my middle daughter liked it (didn't love it but she did like it).

After I finished my last book yesterday I started The Inside Story The Inside Story (The Sisters Grimm, #8) by Michael Buckley by Michael Buckley and I finished it today. Now I'm reading the 9th and final book in that same series (The Sisters Grimm) The Council of Mirrors The Council of Mirrors (The Sisters Grimm, #9) by Michael Buckley

oh Carol - let me know how you like that please. I read Mrs. Dalloway last year and I watched "The Hours" (movie) which I loved. There are times when I can really relate to Ms. Woolf. (I had tried reading the book The Hours but couldn't get into it- I may give it another go, but I'm not sure).

Cari, I absolutely love The Book Thief. One of my favorite books ever. I have only read excerpts of Night. It seems like one of those books that you have to brace yourself to read, but I definitely want to read it.

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I've finished reading What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty by Liane Moriarty. I really loved this novel! The plot was very intriguing, compelling and well-written with an interesting and unique premise. I loved the author's writing style. The story was very funny and some parts were quite touching and made me want to cry. The characters were all well-developed, vivid and believable. I found it easy to relate to Alice and the other characters. I was unable to put this book down for long. I was desperate to find out what was going to happen next! I gave it 5 stars!

Especially Books which have slow beginnings, but you stick with it and then it gets really really good - you wonder, why the slow beginning!?
Or even worse slow beginnings followed by equally slow middles and ends...
